But if sodium is moving down its concentration gradient then why isn't it called facilitated diffusion?

if glucose is high in conc. inside the cell.. thn why it doesn't move down the conc. gradient?🙁

Glucose would WANT to move down its concentration gradient...but it CAN'T. There are no transporters to let the glucose out! (The GLUT transporter, if it was present, WOULD let glucose go down its concentration gradient-- and get out.) This is because glucose is a NON-PENETRATING substance. It can't go through the cell membrane with out a transporter (like GLUT-- or SGLT, which is the transporter in this lecture example!). If you don't have the transporter present, then the molecule can't get through. Cheers!

@@ianworley7499 Sup Worley-- If glucose moves through the GLUT transporter, then this is facilitated diffusion. But if it goes through SGLT, then this is secondary active transport. So basically, we can move glucose however we want- it just depends what kind of transporter (GLUT or SGLT) the cell has!
