@BabyloveAsian Semi-permeable isn't pertaining to molecules but to the membrane itself. When we say semi-permeable we're saying that the cell membrane is only allowing certain substances through and not others. There are a handful of factors that affect permeability such as the charge of the substance trying to pass through, the gates that are found in the membrane and so on.

Your College Prof would have been proud. You have a gift in teaching. It really makes all the difference in the world where before I would try to memorize the material like a robot, and now I realize how important it is to actually UNDERSTAND it - - This is the key to embedding the material into memory! So thank you so much! Your video presentations are good for my health LOL

I just found this. Im taking an online class and I pretty much have to teach myself. There is no instructor to explain the text. This video made it all come together for me, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Great video but the thing with the equilibrium is incorrect, the molecules are not stationary at a equilibrium, they are actually entering the cell and leaving the cell at a same rate. For example when our blood cells are at a equilibrium state, H2O is leaving and entering at the same rate.

how does nonpolar substances get through the polar heads if nonpolar substance are hydrophobic? is it because the membrane is mostly nonpolar, so the force of attraction is strong enough to get it through?

So when somebody says that a certain substance has a semi permeable membrane. What does that mean?

@udaysexy Tap water is fine, even if you filter tap water it's alright. Just pure distilled water in high amounts isn't the best idea in the world for the reasons explained in the video.
