Welcome back guys! It's the 3rd episode! And in this episode we start work on some cargo/freight lines. First up on the docket is getting a truck route working with a farm and some food in and around the Detroit area.
In general, industry and trucking is a little bit tricky to get profitable which is why I tend to start with our passenger layouts first.
One of the hardest parts of setting up an industrial line is getting the spacing of the vehicles just right. In general your producers will stop producing goods IF you don't get them out of the truck/train yards fast enough. So just make sure that everything is moving in a timely manner :)
We also try our hand at an oil train route that is partially served by a truck route. I unfortunately don't notice until a bit later on in the episode that I actually used a passenger train by accident - d'oh! But I realize my mistake and we get things back on track!
We'll be continuing with our industrial routes in the next episode and we're also going to be doing some more work in Detroit.
I'd also like to try our hand at setting up some airports soon!
Let me know your thoughts!
Enjoy,

Guys I done goofed! I didn't realize that I had used a passenger train station INSTEAD of a cargo train station while setting up our cargo train line! D'oh! Luckily I figure out my issue around the 20:00 minute mark :) But I appreciate the comments from you guys who gave me the heads up!

Not even _close_ to the biggest mistake in the video. Bit ballsy to claim this is a teaching series, no?

On the line interface, you can set them to wait until full. That really helps your cargo lines to space out right and to maximize productivity. I mean here the individual line info that you get through clicking on the line name in the 'all the lines' interface.

Oh man... building a network like this on hard would make you go bankrupt in a jiffy...

He's hemorrhaging money. It's insanity. This is a "teaching" series I guess, so just don't blow literal millions on awful terraforming.... or I mean, really anything else he does here. It's mostly all bad. Bulldozing half the city to make way for three passenger steamers. Yeah, by 2250 that might pay itself back....

I know the game is new and so far I have only started one game, but as usual for me money seems to be an issue lol Also I have issues setting up the train tracks and switches so I know I have a lot to work on my end. So far as usual awesome videos and great game!

I've done that passenger for cargo station thing myself :). Liking what you're doing here, thanks.

Show the line colors on the map, with the line manager, when you're doing a tutorial so people can see what you're talking about when you say "they're connected".

I love the way you did the passenger lines, really useful info there. But on supplying I see some flaws as you want either two truck stops, with one for commercial and one for factories, or one truck stop that covers both but preferably the first (thinkin of the future) as they take different goods (commercial takes food, goods and tools where industry takes building materials, fuel and machines as you can see when you click on city info). What I did was try to get one factory to produce to the entire map (which was never going to happen) and then when needed separating 'zones/routes'. So for one zone I'd have one machine factory one oil well, one refinery, one coal mine, one iron mine, etc. and that was really profitable. You also want to have any cargo route take stuff in either direction (sometimes you just can't but most of the time you can find a way) as that gives you profit in both directions! For instance your food production should be two lines. One from the farm to the processing plant and back and one from the farm to the city. The food will be brought from the processing plant to the farm and make a little extra bit of profit where your other line will be shorter, costing you less per distance and keeping your production up. Take it from a guy who built a 200+mil profit machine on solely supplying cities in hard mode. I hope this was some useful info for you as well.

That's a very interesting tactic, using the return-route of a raw goods truck as the first leg of a "relay route" for manufactured goods. Thanks for sharing.

I was just like: When will he realise, that he put down a passenger station. Still a damn good video. I like the way you explain and do stuff (best way to say it) . Keep up the good work! PS: will you do a Lets Play thing or will this end in one ? PPS: What do you think of Trump ?

Post more videos. I like this series and even though you did mess up it didn't take you extremely long to fix it.

It looks like adding a road directly from the food plant to Detroit would be faster and more efficient than sending it back down the same road through the farm. A loop.

making money isnt hard.. but figue out all small details with every route is super hard! restarting all the time, maybe its easier to have one town first and then expand and export to other towns.. ?

Need at least three, or you're gonna run out of raw materials, and o restock on goods. It's literally designed to prevent you from working with only one city, and to encourage you to deliver as many different things as you can to as many different places as you can.

Looking at the Food -> Food Processing truck route, the closer you put the two truck stations together, the faster Goods can be shipped between them. You placed the farm station WAAYY around the other side of the farm from the processing plant, and that made your route longer than it needs to be. Likewise, you could have shifted the processing plant station closer to the farm, and made the route more efficient. You did the same thing with the Oil, swinging the truck stops around the opposite side of the drilling site from the road between them.

The amount transported it not about distance but frequency. For example, have a farm close to your cities, find a food processing plant half way across the map, put a train with goods wagon transporting cattle over and food back, trucks to distribute to cities, because this is so far away, the profit is huge, get 5-6 trains assuming you're supplying 5 cities or so(this is late game, fast trains). Normal will earn you 10 mill easy, after some time, considering earnings is at 70% on normal(or something like that), 50% on hard and 100% on easy, that will make you lots of money even on hard. It's expensive to set up though.

Indeed, this is a great series to watch, but it reminds me of Quill18. Claiming you're "teaching" when in fact you're making dozens of newbie mistakes is pretty... frankly obnoxious.
