1:14 Sound basically has two components: Frequency (being how rapidly the wave oscillates) and Amplitude (being its _strength_ or intensity). In this example, only the Frequency is taken into account. The Amplitude could be thought of as the spiral's radius, which in a slinky is unchanging. This is _not_ the same as transverse, which means the whole wave at any time is being displaced from its direction! Sound, being pressure in air, always points straight to whatever it's directed at. Water waves go up and down, so if you tried to lie something tangent to the rising or falling slope of its wave, it would not point horizontally; to where the wave is directed. Therefore it is transverse. Light waves need all three dimensions of space to work, so both the dimensions that are not in its direction, are oscillating perpendicularly to each other. We know this because if we shine light through a polarising filter that allows practically only one dimension through, all light disappears. Therefore light must be a transverse wave of two wave components. Interestingly, if both components are in phase, we trace out a three dimensional spiral, like the slinky. :-)
@ChrisGozzardThatPhysicsGuy5 жыл бұрын
Is that what is meant by right-hand and left-hand polarization? When the wave spirals?
@___xyz___5 жыл бұрын
That is, in terms that a student can understand, whether the spiral goes clockwise or counterclockwise in the direction of the (in this case) light, determined by the phase difference between its x and y. There are pictures with some really nice gradients called *spiral phase plates* that show this phenomenon if you look up *optical vortex.* Given that it is an electromagnetic wave, the same right hand _rule_ that describes the forces on positive charged particles moving through a magnetic field, also applies to light. If that's something you're already familiar with, it serves as a good analogy for the chosen terminology. For those interested in how phase shift works, I recommend to take a look at *lissajous figures* for some beautiful symmetry.

Now, this is a story all about how My life got flipped-turned upside down And I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air In west Philadelphia born and raised On the playground was where I spent most of my days Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys who were up to no good Started making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air' I begged and pleaded with her day after day But she packed my suit case and sent me on my way She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket. I put my Walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'. First class, yo this is bad Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass. Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like? Hmm this might be alright. But wait I hear they're prissy, bourgeois, all that Is this the type of place that they just send this cool cat? I don't think so I'll see when I get there I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air Well, the plane landed and when I came out There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out I ain't trying to get arrested yet I just got here I sprang with the quickness like lightning, disappeared I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror If anything I could say that this cab was rare But I thought 'Nah, forget it' - 'Yo, homes to Bel Air' I pulled up to the house about seven or eigth And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later' I looked at my kingdom I was finally there To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air

In spring why compression and rarefrection are produced?
@jonathanwilliams17764 жыл бұрын
I'm going to start by linking you to this video, where you can see the hand that's making the wave kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXrOlnp4jdaKjZI The compression is caused by the guy's hand pushing on the end of the slinky. This then 'pushes' against the next bit of the slinky. This then compresses that, while the initial bit decompresses. At some instant, the adjacent bits of the slinky will be stretched/compressed by the same amount. However they are both moving, so the bit that is decompression stretches out and the bit that is compressing becomes compressed. This then compresses the next section in the same way, while the first part returns to equilibrium through friction and air resistance (AKA dampening). I hope that helps

I still have a problem in visualisation...like here he used a slinky, where basically the particles r connected with each other, like if one moves obviously it will move it's other part also, like it's basically the same wire bent in spirals...but in real life, it works with molecules, where the molecules r obviously independent, they are not attached to each other...I really want to visualise how it works in gases, liquids and solids like in molecular level😭😭 ig I am the only one thinking too much here😭😭🤧😞
