how do you know which equation to use if your calculating waves? do you use F=wave or T=seconds ? seconds wave

Depends on which one they gave u in the question or the easiest one for you can still get the same answer

According to my understanding, V=d/t applies to situations we're we know the distance, if not we use the other one.

No it's constant because frequency is the number of waves that move past a fixed point per 1 second

Frequency is the number of waves that pass a fixed point per second the 1 will change depending on the number of waves (1 represents the no of waves ) so if there were 2 waves that pass in one second it would be 2/T ( the T represents the time it takes for one complete wavelength to pass a given point measured in seconds)
