It bothers me that this generation has a lot of guys that rip on Rodney because "his style sucks".... his style is unique by todays standards for sure, but the fact of the matter is he invented half the tricks they try to "steeze out" so I'm going to say he can do it however the fuck he wants. He's one of, if not the, most genuine and passionate people to ever step on a deck and has contributed more to modern street skating than almost anyone. On pure, natural talent Daewon is probably better... but in terms of impact and straight up mastery of skateboarding there's no one that touches Rodney.

Why does everything Rodney says sound so emotional, like he sounds sad. It shows that he cares so deeply about what he is talking about :)
@JReaLBiz864 жыл бұрын
Rodney is an eccentric genius. He doesn't say things that he thinks will "sound good", he just speaks from his heart, all the time. The reason he sounds so deep and emotional about everything he says, is because he is deep and emotional about his thoughts, at all times. For the godfather of street skating to have that much passion for his craft, his friends, and life in general, knowing who he is as a person is humbling, and reaching his level of compassion and intensity is something I strive to accomplish day after day. Rodney's weird. But, he's the best kind of weird.

I agree but man there's a lot of insane tech stuff these days. Just in the last few years there's some guys that are really, really impressive from a technical standpoint like Suciu and then there's guys like Jaws that are pushing the limits of how big shit can get, and then there's guys like Joslin and Evan Smith that combine insane technical skill with the gnarly shit and then there's the robots like Shane that stomp everything first try no matter how insane it is and THEN there's the guys like Nyjah who combine all of that and seem bored 5-0'ing a 25 stair or doing straight up video game shit like 270 back lip hollywood high 16. The bar is much, much higher than it was back then but Daewon and Rodney were so far above the bar that it took 15 years for everyone else to catch up. I put Daewon in that same category with Koston and Mullen in that if there was a game of skate to determine the fate of mankind I'm picking one of them because they can first try shit no one else would even think of doing in the first place.

Born in 1987. Started skating in 99. Daewon and Rodney have resonated with me through out my whole adolescence to where im at now as an adult. In a way i felt ive grown with them. They both hold a strong part in my heart and my skating Journey. Wanna thank both of you all for the the video parts though out the years and my life. SKATE FOR LIFE!

Now I'm gonna go meet up with some homies to skate. Thank you skateboarding❤

He even inspired us skaters way out in Kenya in the 90's! We were so stoked when the Rodney VS Daewon videos came out and someone managed to get a copy there. The dude is still so sick to watch, I thoroughly enjoyed this!

I love how humble both Rodney & Daewon are. Some people who have skills (in anything, sports, music etc) seem kind of arrogant & full of themselves. But these 2 are genuinely nice & decent people. I admire both of them greatly.

I remember in 2008-2009 I was a child watching his videos and my mind being blown up before I go skate. I watched him regularly, the same videos, the same tricks, several times, and I couldn’t get enough. He’s one of the few skaters that you can show a video to anyone knowing they’ll like it, because he transcends the skate scene with his creativity. He does art. You can see how much effort he put in his ideias and tricks and I am forever grateful for what he’s done to me and to thousands (or maybe more than 1 million kids). Thank you for making skate so fun, visceral and beautiful. Thank you Daewon.

I met Daewon at a demo in 94 or 95 and he could not have been nicer. He sat with us and just talked. At the time he was an amazing skater. I had no idea that he would become arguably the best skater ever. I know most people give that credit to Rodney, who was also incredibly nice every time I met him as well as the most innovative, but Daewon transcended to a whole new level.
