Hey there! We’re Cary and Cris. Earlier this year we decided to quit our jobs and leave our beautiful island of Kauai to pursue a life of full-time travel. Being ex-chefs, our worlds pretty much revolve around food and beverage. So, we thought it would be fun to take you with us as we eat, drink, and explore the world.

Brasov is one of the largest cities in Romania it's not a town or small. You should stop doing tours as they distort reality in a big way and you also end up not getting informed. Plus you kinda avoid contact with the country you are in and you end up knowing, learning, seeing a lot less. Both this tour and the food tour are totally not worth doing.

We appreciate your input on this! However, we do a mix of both and have been doing both tours and our own research as well as living with locals and doing our due diligence to figure out which ones are locally-made and locally-run. Understandably, there are tours that are definitely more curated for “tourists” and may sugar-coat or embellish things to make them more interesting but I think as long as you do a healthy mix of research, or talking to locals, and being more informed, then these tours do help the local economy and can be a great experience. It can also help encourage visitors to come. There are many different types of travelers and not all tourists are comfortable or able to go around on their own - which makes guided tours and tour guides very helpful. We do see your viewpoint as a local though, but having traveled full-time for 3 years, we have seen both sides of it where locals think tours are a sham (some are, but the smaller, locally run ones are usually great), and yet it’s very hard for most travelers to know where to go or what to eat, or who to talk to. It’s easy to tell people to travel more adventurously, but unfortunately it is much easier said than done. We will always recommend local tours and guides as they help make traveling less scary, just as much as we recommend the more adventurous types to try to do it on their own. We try to encourage as many people to visit places as much as we can, in their own ways and in whichever ways they are comfortable with 😊 Anyway, we always welcome and encourage a good conversation on different opinions - thank you for taking the time to comment and discuss! 🙏🏽

@@TheTravelingChefs I have seen your 2 videos in Romania and both tours are terrible, especially the food one. This one with the castles is super rushed and Sinaia is not in Transylvania. In Sinaia you visit the monastery too and if you are there, you might as well take the cable car or the gondola to 2000m altitude. 12km or so from Sinaia, there is Busteni and the Cantacuzino castle. Plus a nice view of the mountains. And there is a cable car there too. You can also do a short hike to Urlatoarea waterfall or, if you are into hikes, Busteni is a great place to start hikes on Bucegi mountains. Bran, Dracula is 100% fiction. The link to Vlad is an internet myth. Dracula has nothing to do with Romania, Vlad or Bran, there is nothing Romanian in the novel or movies and no vampire in Romanian mythology. There is also a cave with rare bat species in Bran, there are some super nice villages near by, there is Amfiteatrul Transylvania and there are a bunch of great hikes one can take on th hills around there. Brasov, is a major city and last year Bucharest got 1.8 million visitors but lots go there for business or are in transit while Brasov and the seaside got 1.5 million each. Those are the top 3 touristic destinations in Romania, Bucharest, Brasov and the seaside. 4th place being far behind. So when you say it's a small town and you can stay there for 1h or something, it's outrageous. In Brasov county there are 2 fortified churches that are UNESCO world heritage sites plus another one that is a must - Harman, Viscri, Prejmer. In the city of Brasov thera re medieval fortifications, the first school anywhere in the world in the Romanian language and so on. There are medieval fortifications all over the county - Fagaras, Rasnov ( a cave there too and a dino park), Rupea, Feldioara, There is Sambata Monastery, there is Manastirea rupestra de la Sinca Veche. The largest mountain/ski resort in Romania is actually part of the Brasov city and a lot more. And like 7 different mountains that are at least partially in the county - if you are into that. The tour rushes you, shows you nothing and takes your money. And this has nothing to do with the local economy or anything, you are the ones losing as taking a tour is more like watching an inaccurate documentary on TV, instead of actually traveling. And your image of Romania is highly distorted plus, you don't know anything about the country. because you isolated yourself in a bubble (bus/tour).

I'll add that Brasov is the only European city in Ttipadvisor's top 25 trending destinations for 2024.

@@realjx313 thanks for all the tips!! We appreciate your opinions for sure although we very much disagree with your view on tours but like we said, people have different styles and enjoy different things so to each their own. We definitely enjoyed the castle tours but just like all of the content we post - they are merely OUR opinions and we show things that we enjoy or that other people might, which understandably, not everyone would! We did many things other than what’s in the video, but if we showed them all then it would be an extremely long 4-hour video. As the tour was 5 hours long, it definitely did not feel rushed to us and we had plenty of time to see everything. I would blame it on poor editing (my bad!), as I try to condense everything and just show the highlights in a much-shortened video so the many hours we spent exploring the castles unfortunately had to be trimmed down to just a few minutes 😆 we took this tour to SEE the castles, and seeing that we were able to do that, then to us it was definitely worth it. If for you it is not worth paying to see a castle, then definitely don’t do it - it’s as simple as that. As hard as we try to explore and get to know a country, it is impossible for us to be able to know and share them all. But from the few experiences we’ve had in Romania, we have absolutely loved it, we think the food is AMAZING, the produce here is so fresh and the locals are lovely and friendly. Most of our videos aim to show these, and of course they are all just shown from our perspective and point of view, which I think everyone who watches our videos should know by now. They are meant to simply be enjoyed and to encourage people to travel. The aim of these videos is to show people how beautiful Romania is, and how delicious the food is, so if some terms or info are inaccurate then our viewers are usually very understanding, knowing that we are not history experts and do not claim to be so. We are also not Romanian, so of course we will mispronounce and make many mistakes, just like everyone does when they travel to a new country for the first time. We’ve learned so much from the info you shared, and again thanks for taking the time for a conversation!

@@TheTravelingChefs You are focused on defending yourself while i am trying to help you travel is a reasonable way and actually travel, have contact with the place you are visiting. And no 5h is not enough for anything, 2 weeks is not enough for that route. And you haven't seen or tasted even 0.5% of Romania, i assure you. My focus was on your experience not the video, you are missing out in a big way by doing tours.

Transylvania was a region of Hungary for 1000 years before wallach "romanian" occupation in 1918 - 1919 . Dracula (Vlad Tepes) was in Wallachia not in Transylvania , Hungary . Castle of Torcsvar (Bran) in Transylvania is not Dracula castle . kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4qbY3imqNuVh5o
