I've heard people say that the atom smasher is an exploit, but I feel like if a drawbridge came down on me I would probably cease to exist.
@Ic0nGaming2 жыл бұрын
The only exploit about it is that nothing is left after the smash. This even eradicates fluids from existence and that's where it starts to be ... weird ^^

@@Ic0nGaming apparently if you look in legends at something killed by an atom smasher, their death is reported as something like “in year x urist mclumsy was slain by a mysterious force” -that “mysterious force” (or whatever the actual wording is) in reference, is referring to the player. Because you made them pull that lever.

also keep in mind you can place some bars where the water was coming from in the drowning chamber, because enemies can't get through them, but water can, in case there are any fliers, or someone climbs, or someone can swim or something

I actually prefer to have it set up/activated in a way, that no atoms are smashed but instead, after falling 3 z-levels because of the retracting bridge, that quickly closes again and turns into a roof, the atom smasher is down and will by a lever pull then act as a catapult towards the 'roof' So instead of Fall -> Hit the ground -> Smash -> Deleted I end up with Fall -> Hit the ground -> Get flung up -> Crash into the roof and bounce off of it -> Hit the ground again THE go to way if you ever wanted to see a dozen goblins at the same time with all kinds of fractures xD Great to set up some Dwarven Daycare of Migrant trials 1. Get a bunch of Gobbos (roughly the same number of already battered and still healthy ones) 2. Stick them in a room with dwarven children/migrant 2.5 Whoever doesn't survive, failed Armoks Trial Of Battering 3. Everyone that survived will be patched up 4. Everyone that survived and was patched up, got send into another room with the still healthy Gobbos 4.5 Whoever doesn't survive, failed Armoks Trial Of Slaughter 5. Everyone that survived will be patched up, except those with wounds which would be deadly within a few hours/up to a day Also VERY helpful for nagging nobles but instead of them getting down-up-down smashed, they're catapulted out of the fortress :>

I don't think the atom smasher can smash relatively big enemies. I know the bronze colossus and the FB as well I think can't be smashed and instead, deconstruct your bridge if it's lowered onto them. Also, wouldn't be better to set a pressure plate for the pitfall trap than a lever? Though you'd have to explain it but since this is a guide on traps, a way for them (enemies) to trigger it themselves seems crucial for a trap.
@elchewbacco2 жыл бұрын
The timing on dwarfs pulling levers would make it near impossible to get a pitfall trap to work using a lever.
@Ic0nGaming2 жыл бұрын
I personally always use very long hallways so that the entire raid enters a big pitfall complex, giving my dwarves a lotta time to pull the lever. Didn't I mention to put a pressure plate at the end of the pitfall? I was so sure I did, if I missed in this draft, I'm so sorry, cause that must've been lost in recording then.

that one dwarf in the water trap being concerned about the water and telling the others about it "eh guys, why is there water coming from the ceiling? guys?"
@AnalystPrime2 жыл бұрын
I had a trap idea I need to test out: Either dig stairs far down or build an entry tunnel at the bottom of the mountain so enemies have to climb back up a long stairway to get to the door left open for them to path through. When the first one to reach the door steps on a pressure plate the hatch above opens and releases tons of water. This should make creatures in the stairwell fall down to the bottom. A second hatch above the entry releases more water to push any stragglers further inside. When the corridor is filled with water, open a hatch to flush enemies down into a room at least three Z-levels high. Top level has fortifications for the militia to shoot at anything that managed to survive the falls and drowning. Theory to test: Multiple Z-levels of 3x3 or 5x5 rooms draining through a central hole should give more pressure than one wide room. Because this trap should have small area you can build several side by side so you can close the door while it is being cleaned up and enemies will march to the next one. Variation: Make ramps down at each end of a 3 wide and at least 2Z high entryway with deep pits on either side; fortifications on the walls and building archer barracks on the other side optional. On floors above build two or more rooms with a 1 wide retracting bridge above the center of the corridor and fill them with water. When a bridge is opened the water will fall in the middle of the road and should push any enemies into the pits. If any remain or there comes a next wave, you can use the water reservoirs above instead of having to wait for it to refill.

I found out that when digging a channel, dwarves will dig 2 channels deep but the third they will climb out and to chennel more deep you need an access stair, the older version if you dig a deep channel the first dwarf that reach the area would dig get trapped then start digging down.
@BORN7532 жыл бұрын
I dug a straigt line pit, and it turns out dwarves can infinitely climb walls, but if there is no way to escape and the bridge is closing the pit entirely, then they will just hang infinitely in one place. The Climber ability is not used or trained.

Saw an LP where the sole surviving dwarf of a necromancer siege-a brave web collector wandering this massively deep cavern layer, like 15 z levels at least, escaped by clinging to the cavern walls, 10 z levels above the cavern floor, jumping from one wall to another, climbing mushrooms and trying to path off the map, he couldn’t find it, but the player gave him the nickname “survivor” and abandoned the fortress before he died of starvation. He looked him up in legends and he indeed survived, and was living in a different fortress. It was one of those “man, dwarf fortress is awesome and makes such weird, wonderful narratives!”
