I really think most people are ruining their movie going experiences by having expectations. I liked the movie and I think that’s because I don’t go in thinking “oh it’s m night, this better be absolutely perfect like the Sixth Sense or it’s garbage”. I just go in thinking it’s probably going to suck, and I let myself get sucked into the world that the movie is showing me. That being said, the movie is badly written once it gets 2/3 of the way in. I think scripts need to get a lot better from every writer not just Shyamalan. We have passed the era of bad cgi and we are now into the bad script era.

Let me fix this movie: - Hartnett takes his daughter to the concert, because he needs to keep up the appearance of being a good father. - Little does he know that someone he abducted long ago, who managed to escape, spots him at the concert. She remembers him! How can she forget him. It’s got to be him!! She calls the FBI agent in charge of the case, and a bunch of law enforcement officers head to the arena to trap him. It will prove to be one of the costliest miscalculations in law enforcement history. - Hartnett's serial killer instincts start warning him. It triggers his cold killer mode, turning him into a figure like Agent 47, The Hitman. During the concert, he uses his stealth serial killer abilities to brutally but quietly kill anyone he needs to in order to escape. Nobody notices him because he’s like Agent 47, and he disposes of bodies effortlessly. It’s bloody and brutal. He quietly slays civilians and cops, not giving a damn. It’s a bloodbath, and we can’t help but enjoy seeing him meticulously work. It’s truly fun. The horrific incidents in the arena will forever be known to the world as “The Bloodbath at the Dark Raven Concert.” - Fast forward to the final act of this movie, where Hartnett is eventually cornered by the FBI agent in charge. But, dun, dun, dun, his daughter’s a killer too! Like father, like daughter. She kills the FBI agent, and they escape. - The last scene: they are having pizza with the obnoxious mom and her bratty daughters. Hartnett and his daughter give each other sly looks. Yep, they’re going to kill them later! TRAP The end. Credits. Awesome movie

I think my main problem with the movie was the suspension of disbelief as you mentioned. Mainly with the police logic. Firstly, the entire trap scenario would never happen- That many cops to catch one serial killer among 3000 men? I'm not sure why the butcher didn't just leave normally since he sure as hell wouldn't be detained and would just be questioned for a few seconds. Then the fact that the police were so incompetent in the second half was laughable. The swat team traps him in the limousine, and decides to blindly open fire on it despite being in a crowd? Then somehow the butcher escapes the limousine, I have no idea how. Then the cops decide to leave the wife alone in the house and when they come inside to stop him (as he's also armed and drugged) they decide to taze him. Not only is it ridiculous that the butcher took on 5 or so tasers while in his drugged state, but the cops never shot him while he was still actively attacking them??? Then they somehow handcuff him so terribly that while they're walking him out of the house they all point their guns at him when he stops, threatening to shoot. What???? You can't control a handcuffed guy??? Finally, they leave the butcher ALONE in the back of their truck, which is a terrible choice since he obviously escapes immediately. I also forgot to mention how dumb it is that the butcher randomly decided to eat the drugged pie the wife prepared, like how does he fall for that? And then he just becomes fine after he's arrested? The drugs wore off that quickly?? I feel like M night shamlyan took an edible when he started writing this script and halfway through it kicked in leading to whatever shenanigans were happening in the second half lmao
@fromtexas27343 ай бұрын
Well, I really don't know if the police would have used that many cops to actually try and catch a dangerous serial killer or not, but I definitely know that they would have used a lot nonetheless. That's for sure. Well, the police had the crowd back off away from the limousine before firing at it. The police told the crowd to move away from the limousine, though. I guess the Butcher was just so damn tough that he could take on multiple tasers at one time. I don't know. Even though the Butcher was cuffed, the police might have still been either very afraid of him or they were still just being very cautious of him. I mean, handcuffed or not, the Butcher is still a scary as hell, psycho-killer who will mess you up big time! That's my best explanation for that. I don't know. 🤷♂ They might have left him in the back of the truck all alone by himself, but there was just no way of him escaping anyway as the doors on that truck were completely locked. The Butcher fell for eating the yummy pie 🥧because he saw that the wife had taken a bite out of her slice that was on her own plate. The wife took a bite out of the pie herself.
@graysonwhite54413 ай бұрын
@@fromtexas2734 Firstly, the police would not actually open fire on a limosine in a crowd, even if they back off a bit, there could be anyone in the car, so they have wouldn't have just started blasting into it with their rifles especially with the collateral around them. No one is so damn tough that they can take on multiple tasers (while shirtless). This also doesn't explain why the police didn't use guns on him when they saw that the tasers weren't effective. If properly handcuffed, even an extremely strong person should be not a threat, especially with tons of SWAT around. For some reason the SWAT officers handcuffed him in the front with lanky chains, idk why, they should have handcuffed with arms behind him with normal handcuffs lmao. Even then, him stepping forward a bit would be no excuse for them to shoot him on sight unless he was attacking someone. If the SWAT officers had shot him during that scene, that would have been murder. Its funny how when he was actually not a threat in handcuffs they wanted to shoot him, but not when he was attacking multiple officers while being tased??? The movie obviously suggests he's going to escape the truck, and even then, with how much of a threat you pointed out he is, they shouldn't have left him back there by himself, in case he got free. Like Penguinz0 said, there's no way the butcher, a super smart serial killer, should fall for the pie trick. It's so dumb. It's so obvious the wife did something to it. There's just no way someone would be that dumb even if they saw the other person eat it.

I think Cooper is in the Unbreakable universe. There are references to how strong he is, the sedative his wife put in the pie barely had an effect on him and he was able to lunge at an FBI agent and gouge his eyes out after getting tazzed numerous times.

I thought it was entertaining in the first 20 mins but once I found out it actually took itself seriously it became unbearably cringe. My whole theater was howling in laughter at the “serious” moments it was hailarius. That theater experience saved it for me otherwise criticaly legit the worst made and acted movie I’ve personally seen In my life
@palmmahir38883 ай бұрын
I saw it yesterday and I thought it was terrible! The movie was too busy promoting M. Night’s daughter as a singer for the entire movie. And the way how the story unfold felt rushed and it should’ve unfold it sooner. I also find the suspense and thrills were so lame and generic. The movie also has this ridiculous over-the-top performance with a cringy nonsensical dialogue.
@johnnyboy71443 ай бұрын
If it just promoted her as a singer that woulda been a good thing cause her singing is not bad, the problem is the second act promoted her ACTING instead and she can’t act her way out of a paper bag

@@youngornitier There was a twist at the end of the movie, but the way how they set it up was so convenient it made me scratching my head rather than being shocked by it. All thanks to a dialogue that made no sense whatsoever.

@@palmmahir3888 I feel like we’ve seen that kind of twist so many times when certain characters suspect another but end up finding out something other than what they thought. Not only that but usually it happens in the middle of a story but M Night uses this as a final big reveal which made it disappointing. And yeah the convenience was ridiculous and such an overdone trick that i’m sitting here like “ummm don’t do it and how could the character possibly fall for it and listen”
@GizmoBeach2 ай бұрын
I’ve really appreciated several of Night’s films (The Visit, especially) but man he has directed some absolute garbage. Seems to come in waves: those four films following The Village, and now his four films after Split. I can only assume inexperienced Gen-Z’ers are the ones liking Trap; any jaded person could easily poke holes through this rubbish w/o any effort. The worst part was thinking this would be surprising, intriguing; then I recalled seeing the plot outline months ago. WHY did Night make Hartnett a repulsive serial killer? How in hell does anyone watch this and think the cops made to look like fools while trying to ensnare someone in a totally implausible location, is quality entertainment? 🤨

I really enjoyed the movie up until it leaves the concert/arena. Kind of falls off a cliff, going from an intriguing thriller to nonsensical.

It sounds like M. Night should just become an overpaid "idea man" and let some new talent take those ideas to their peaks rather than fall into the continuous pit of empty M. Night hype. I have never been so excited by a trailer and then overwhelmingly disappointed in the movie reviews. Never a better way to turn someone off wanting to give the movie a shot.

The movie itself is the trap. Everyone knows that obnoxious parent who forces friends & family to watch videos of their kids performing in some talent show or recital... Shyamalan is that guy, but on a much larger scale. He lures you in w/ an intriguing concept for a movie, & then forces you to sit there & watch his daughter perform for 2 hours...

Having reasonable criticisms is not being a ‘hater’ lol. Even people who say negative things about this movie always have at least a few good things to say about it so why don’t you relax. You sound like one of these people who only wants to gush about movies, even bad ones and never wants to say anything bad about any movie and that’s boring.

You actually kind of nailed it was a great popcorn flick for me it had a bunch of little twists especially in the second half overriding some of the unrealistic scenarios. I found the beginning a bit slow or it felt like too much back and forth but not terrible. I really enjoyed the music Saleka is an excellent songwriter with a great voice so earned the pop star concert role. Only tiny disappointment was that they had Kid Cudi so would have loved to see him a bit more even if it was just the concert perspective.

I encourager people to go to the movies ALL THE TIME. I'm going to make responsible recommendations. I'm not going to tell everyoen to go to the theaters for every movie.
@TheKrazyKajeevieShow3 ай бұрын
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout You do, that's true Sean. You do reccomend certain movies for that big screen cinema experience, however, that's based on your subjective opinion. Which I know that's all you can do as a film reviewer. But of course, as mentioned, film is so subjective, and some will appreciate Trap on the big screen over a smaller screen. Yesterday and two days prior I worked podium/floor at my huge local cinema and spoke to patrons who were going into see Trap and who came out and most loved it on the big screen. What I hope to encourage you with Sean is that at your age, you'll no doubt have fond memories of video stores, like Blockbuster Video Store and other 'moments & pop' video stores. You must admit. It's sad you can't take your two children with your wife to experience them as we go to as children and teens. Well I'm telling you, Netflix and streaming which killed off the video stores is going to kill Cinemas. Physical home media is dying, Disney now aren't releasing any physical media in all of Australasia, forcing families into home streaming and next will be Cinemas, so by you having streaming, and encouraging it, you may not realise it, but you're not only slowly contributing to the death of physical media (dvds, blurays, 4K) but you're contributing to the death of cinema and real filmmakers like Shymalan not having their films funded by studios. This is not merely my opinion, it's fact. Then if you go deeper and research Agenda 2030 and The Great Reset, you'll see the plan of the elites is a car-less cashless society, 10 minute 'smart cities' and no Cinemas, but families kept at home watching what the government allows them to watch on 'home Cinemas.' And wholistically Sean, by encouraging people to visit Cinemas overall instead of home streaming, you're helping the economy massively, your own local town/city (and others) because people then visit local diners, shops etc! It's win win. As I've mentioned in previous comments too, I'm an award winning short filmmaker, I've done Cannes International in France, screening my work there among many other placees and have done distribution courses at Cannes too. Trust me, we need bums on seats buddy or sadly my prediction will come true. I'm now building a Blockbuster Video store in my garage. I had a huge shipment of approx 2,000 vhs tapes, 8 big ex video store shelves, poster, 5 big store metal DVD racks and carpet tiles arrive yesterday, with more arriving today, all to bring back that video store nostalgia and have local families bring their children to experience it. It's a huge crazy project and will take a while to complete. Hopefully I don't have to build a cinema one day to show kids what they looked like. Oh and Sean, it's ok (and nice and respectful) to drop a like on subjective comments that are sincere and meaningful. Even if they don't agree with you! It shows that your viewers are engaging with you and taking their time to do so! God bless you buddy. Krazy Kajeevie from down under 🇦🇺
