We had our first successful trap on the trapline ladies & gentlemen - A Pine Marten! This is the one & only Marten I will trap, as I enjoy watching them hop around the acreage, stealing my additional Wolf bait I have tucked away inside some large totes.
Beyond that, I hung the rest of my snares & now have to make more. More importantly, the Wolf bait wasn't hit... but I have a new plan for the roadkill Deer, so stay tuned for the next couple videos coming up!

If you get 2 wolves you will graduate to master trapper lol They are the smartest animal in the bush. Unreal how they smell and know. Wanna see wolves check out the post photo I just put up. Good luck! That one wolf track in your video is a beast!! I hope you get him, you’ll save a lot of moose and deer if you do. Cheers!

The hardest part is landing a trapline - The best course of action would be to trap on your own private land, or someone else's; with consent of course!

@ Anytime brother - Before you book your trappers course in your area, go chat with friends/family & see if any farmers locally are having issues with Wolves or Coyotes... They will very easily give you consent to trap the bush surrounding their fields!

Just a matter of time my friend. Maybe try boiling the snares in spruce branches might help scent wise. And same pair of leather gloves for setting them up everytime.
@PatterningNature

Amen to that brother!!! The first dozen snares I didn't boil.... But the last 12 I made I've boiled, so we will see how it goes... The proof will be in the pudding, my friend!!! I've also heard 50/50 about bare hand setting & glove setting... When I'm out with friends on their trap line, I wear my baiting gloves (Meat hands lol) & we don't have any issues with snaring big dogs, so we will see how the bare hand approach works for now.

I wear rubber gloves when setting coyote snares to keep the scent down. Not sure if it helps but I think it does. Good luck. Fun video

I've heard both ways... Gloves... Or bare hands... So this year I'm winging it a bit & trying the natural approach. So far the Yotes are walking under the Wolf snares, which makes sense as they're set a bit bigger & higher for the big dogs... But I've lowered a few snares so if they continue to dip away from the snares I will resort to wearing gloves!

Hey Guy hows things lol i'm glad you like seeing the martin running around rebait the box and put a camera there instead of a trap i like seeing the little critters to i wonder if you have a wolf den on your property setting up a camera there would be great to watch pups grow and if there is a food source there to help raise the pups they might set up home around there Take care ✌
@PatterningNature
@PatterningNature 6 күн бұрын
Thats actually a wonderful idea LOL I think I'll actually do that, Ernie!!!! And I don't think there is a den - Maybe kilometers away from us, for sure, but nothing close from what I've gathered. Franklin 100% has a den nearby his lodge as we witness the Wolf pups every year being taught how to feed in the water & grab bait with their little heads/mouths LOL

Beauty Martin bud ! Congratulations! You’ll get one bud just takes time . Honestly I think I’d cut that deer down and just add it to the bait pile was a cool idea but there’s nothing natural about a deer hanging in a tree and I think it’s got them all spooked . Gotta watch those conibear traps that’s one club you don’t want to join lol keep givener bud !

@PatterningNature no I'm a self-trained taxidermist.. I am past 70. I started building my own home in the woods where we live. When I was 13 years old which was just a little cabin ..stayed there in the coldest of winters..and I used to want to stay in the woods all my life.. but that wasn't possible.. I've been a hunter and trapper all my life .I'm a bow hunter. And I've trained other people. One of them is now one of the best taxidermists in the area. And I've got a nephew now that is hunting worldwide.. He just got done building a cabin. On property in Alaska. and his son is a Bush pilot with his own airplane..I'm native American to the core( in my head.)😉 ..Maybe ..because my forefathers were taken by them. When they first came to America ..I am the direct descendant of the one that is very similar to the story on Daniel Boone and how he got taken how two of his sons never wanted to return . After they.got taken.. I would love to live where you do. My brother-in-law's brother lives in Red lake. If he's still there .I'm not sure.. On the reservation.. Like I said I would like to live there..But I do the best with where I'm at.. I did catch some really big beaver ..and they're just dried . With a tanning solution.and they've kept in cans. Someday I may do some things with them. And I sold the rest. I have made coonskin coats. And hats and fox. Sometimes make my own bows. and sometimes my own arrow tips. Stone.. I appreciate watching you guys you guys look like a lot of fun. The guy with the hat is just like me.. I think we're brothers from another mother.!

@@JamieElison Holy what a story, Jamie!!! Do you have any photos from when you were younger & in your prime trapping/hunting days that you could share over e-mail? The guy with the hat is Franklin - You two definitely sound a lot alike... Long lost brothers one may say LOL Do you ever get up to Alaska to visit your Nephew?
@JamieElison
@JamieElison 2 күн бұрын
@PatterningNature no I haven't gone to Alaska to visit him .but I would love to. .if I had the frame of mind. because I don't like to travel! anymore I texted him yesterday though... I run 6,000 mi into British Columbia on a motorcycle. In the 70s all by myself.. . I have those pictures ..after that I didn't travel much. The very first four stroke Honda that they made. 1969 1970 Sandcast block.. I still have it... I would be fine if I was just there all of a sudden in an instant. I don't like to fly.. Don't have many pictures of my youth doing that. Didn't have a camera. But I could take pictures of stuff I have. But I know another guy that took some. I keep asking him and he never brings them. Not sure if he's alive anymore. At least the person that should have possession of them... I'm going to check to see if some of my friends are still living around Red lake.. I was just picking my phone up to do that. When you texted me. I'd like to get one of your wolves.. my guess is it would have to be tanned before I could do that... My mother was raised. Probably a nearly straight west of you in North Dakota. About 15 miles south of the Canadian border. She wrote a book .you should read it sometime. My grandmother lived in a sod house up there in a roundabout 1918.. I could tell you a story after story.. my grandfather worked for the Minnesota horse trading company. Sold (Persian horses). to the westerners in those days.. he was Catholic and married Amish girl! . That's where he met my grandmother. I've got a heritage that does not stop!. I got to quit I could write a book right here. This is what happens when you get old! Even though I don't feel old. A nice chatting with you!

@@JamieElison Hahahahah you should write a book, my friend!!!! I plan to tan some of these Wolves - I have 3 so far in the freezer. One has been skinned already but the other 2 I'm waiting to skin in the Spring then I will tan them all, so there is a chance I could sell one to ya for sure!
