A huge part that I liked about this game was that it deals almost purely in psychological storytelling. It's more of a video novel than it is an actual game in that regard. It encapsulates something that actually effects people in real life (postpartum depression) and uses the park as a metaphor for Lorraine's personal detachment from her son, ultimately leading her to supposedly murder him in the darkest recesses of her mind and in actuality. Some of the best horror stories usually take things from the skewed perspective of a narrator who's not entirely there (unstable, psychologically speaking) and superimpose their thoughts on the reader rather than simply telling things like they are. The point is to build up more suspense because it's not a "normal" person you're trying to relate to but rather the insight of a killer you're learning about (i.e. "YOU'RE THE BAD GUY!").

The bumper car running straight to the character reminded me of when I was in a bumper car. I had collided with someone in thier own bumper car not realizing that the operator was standing on the floor and his legs was mildly crushed between the 1 foot metal bumper wall. I apologized after the fact, but he was looking at me like it was my fault he was standing in the floor where he shouldn't be. He quickly learned not to be standing on the floor though.

Remember at the start when he said "We lose things all the time" that could mean Callum was either never born or died earlier on in Lorane's life, notice how the entire place is rusted and looks abandoned, that's because this was the last place she spent time with her son before he died, this entire game is Lorane trying to accept that her son is dead, and when she stabs him with the ice pick finally that is her accepting the truth.

i believe she suffers from postpartum depression, or postpartum psychosis. whilst she's definitely showing signs of untreated postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis is rarer, and cases of it usually end in the mother purposely killing, or causing extreme harm to her baby; in some cases, other young children she's had may also be harmed, or fatally wounded. i'm guessing this game is exploring the guilt, and trauma caused by her supposedly killing the child. the abandoned theme park-"world of dreams," she described.-could also be reference to the postpartum depression, and how she perceives motherhood. dunno, just a thought.

Like somebody posted below, not sure of the exact time, but the mom seems to have postpartum depression. Some mothers are supposedly so scared of being judged for not feeling love for their child(ren), when they have ppd, that they hide it with false love. Some get diagnosed and get it treated and are fine, but some still have it even after getting it treated. I might be wrong, though.

Hands down one of my favorite horror games. It's like among the sleep, mixed with it's own horror, and that up the escalator scene changing everything truly sets the tone. God, the swan jumpscare, and the invisible horror aspects like the park is alive but hiding it. Perfectly sets up the concept of everything being a terrored illusion to real life. I usually hate these types of games because I want real horror, not imaginary, but this nails that.

I like the theme, but they made it a bit too obvious what was going to happen way too soon. Maybe it was trying to go for the approach of the player's denial that it couldn't possibly be her even if they did make it obvious, but that's not quite how it played out. Ok so here's what I think I've gathered of the storyline: the mother had severe post-partum depression and probably other underlying mental issues. Her boyfriend died (was murdered by her?) and left her alone to care for Callum but she was still in a depression at that point and the brain fog may have caused her to forget him in the car (or potentially she was intending to let Callum die and make it look like an accident). The officer who ticketed her for it probably had a hand in getting her admitted to the mental hospital where she went through electroshock therapy which, as it often did, left her in a worse mental state than when she started. Judging by her connections to the park, her issues with having enough money to feed herself and her child, and her fragile mental state I would even suggest that she could have been the mascot that killed the teenager, especially with the mascot standing behind her in that ending scene and the way she killed Callum being similar to the description of the way the mascot killed the teenager.
