Great to be able to take a dog like that out of the pack. Helps keep the numbers down a lot before they add to the problem.

@@intothenight1993 I have had some success, I am on a "hobby farm" and always plague by dogs. But on occasion I have dropped a few. Just recently a very hungry Alsatian cross was intent on getting a meal of chicken. The only rifle I could grab quickly was a 22. I managed to drop her with one shot. I like your content, keep bringing it out, cheers👍

@@andrewsteele7663 well done! The old 22 is a great caliber and often underestimated. That's all I use to shoot things in the traps. I have shot a dog just outside or house yard with the 22 becuase that's what I had in my hand at the time. But it was on the run and the semi auto came in very handy. Got him though. Would be interesting to leave baited traps set off (or set to not trip, tang jaw wired open) with camera surveillance (turned on). Bait away from traps, bait with traps near, bait with trap actually attached. And see their behaviour over a few days. And how many are there, getting one from a group is probably like getting a mob of pigs one at a time. Also wonder about using a dead dog for bait.
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Жыл бұрын
I think there is only one or two dogs going past. That was a few weeks ago that i was trapping and my brother saw one big one down that way while we were away but didn't get a shot at him. But it could be interesting to see what they do with an exposed trap. Get them used to the smell of one set off so they know it's not a threat. But i wouldn't leave a dead dog there. I often leave the blood from one I trap there and usually catch another dog the following night if there are more in the area.

Are those dogs some kind of domesticated dog that became feral or are they some type of dingo hybrid? Can they be domesticated and kept as pets or are they completely feral now and pack hunting? What do you do with the carcass or the pelt? Is it legal to eat dog meat in Australia if it is feral? Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Жыл бұрын
Haha first of all I don't know of anyone in Australia who would want to eat a dog or doesn't feel disgusted at the thought of it 🤣. Most of the Dogs around here that I have shot would be mostly pure dingo as far as I can tell from their looks. There are a lot of crossbred dogs in other places though. Some people do have them as pets and some of them make amazing pets but it all depends on the nature of the individual dog. Some are friendly and others can be nasty to anyone they don't know. Check out this video about Ernie the Dingo. kzbin.info Clark has an excellent channel and does a lot more trapping than I do. Check out his channel when you get a chance. Got some good content 👌 Hope that answers your questions 👍

@@intothenight1993 Thanks for your prompt reply. Glad you didn't take offence because those were real, genuine questions out of curiosity. I am Taiwanese American. I was born in the US, and grew up hunting. I also grew up with pet dogs. But when I visited and lived in Taiwan decades ago, it was still common practice for both Taiwanese of Chinese ancestry and Taiwanese tribal people (the ancestors of Australian aboriginal people) to eat dog meat but to also keep them for hunting wild boar. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to hunt dogs if they were a threat to livestock or people, kids, etc. If you haven't eaten dog or cat before, you should give it a try. I've eaten almost every animal that Chinese eat that are taboo, including dog and cat. I prefer not to hunt unless I am going to eat the game or use it as bait. From what I hear, there are tons of Chinese in Australia. In all seriousness, you should consider selling it to the restaurants if you're going to shoot the dogs. It's a shame to let the meat and pelt go to waste. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

@@kenfan5666 no offence taken. 👍 I figured they were genuine questions. That's interesting and i did know that some Asian countries ate dogs but the thought of it to me it's gross. If someone else cooked it up properly I'd definitely try it but i don't like the thought of it haha. 🤣 I always scalp the dogs when i get them and get the bounty money. But they can carry diseases so that puts me off wanting to eat them 🤣

Haha well the crazy thing is, they bring dogs over from Frazer Island and let them go out in the national parks north of here and they come down here and then the council pays me a bounty for their scalps! I don't mind but if they wanted to get rid of the dogs then why does one area of the government relocate them back into the wild and then another area of government, pay us a bounty to shoot them??? Crazy I recon.
