Trapping The Tracks Part 3

In this video I start setting another trapline in the neighbours place to try and catch a few dogs for him.

Can I ask you? Is it worth making a little device to alert you when a trap has gone off ? Like a SMS saying "trap #14 Alert" etc. Maybe a device that when pulled from the chain that sends the SMS.

Disposing of a fox in a trap would be easier if we were allowed to have handguns, but that would be sensible, and our politicians are not sensible.

Interesting to find that it seems you are getting on top of the cats. In a different species/environment scenario the conclusion was reached that this was achievable in low (predator) breeding success years, which seemed to be those prey was scarce. In seasons with high productivity control efforts seemed to be ineffective. It would be really interesting if your local most vulnerable species benefit in the long term, and whether different seasons make a difference in cat control numbers & effectiveness in the longer term. To do a statistically valid study is time consuming, but picking "indicator" species & recording encounters, sign, kills etc may be informative (records are far better than memory). Using the cameras is a real plus for getting useful information (but not the only one, sightings etc are relevant). It would add another level of interest (& oportunity for critics to be negative). It's quite likely Government conservation organisations have ongoing information about comparable areas where they control predators, and "control" sites where nothing is done. Your efforts are unlikely to be replicated by such entities, hence a different approach is interesting in the longer term in a limited area..

Sorry mate. Haha I got talking to some fellas that were asking for advice about thermals and hardly got time to look through the units myself 😂. But it was a great night and I really enjoyed it. I do live about 4 hrs drive north west but we came down for Farmfest and it worked out well that the Barn’s thermal night was on while we were down. I actually grew up down near Oakey so I do go back down there a bit. 👍 Did you pick up a thermal there?

No I haven’t. But might be worth a try. Most of the times I’ve caught foxes, I have actually been targeting wild dogs but a fox is a bonus

So much better mate. Although I was away for the weekend shooting pigs and had some issues with it only recording sound and no video. So not sure what is going on there. And I have to get used to actually hitting record instead of recoil activated video. But aside from that, it’s a very nice scope to use and I have no regrets 👌

(Lamona Vuitton)she become a little forest cat When i took in my second cat Mia Tingeling (gray mask & a mantle tux) both cats come in to eat and goes for walks with me and my 2 female Shih-Tzu dogs Dolly Olivia & Sofi Alexandra! But, feral is feral! So, good job Josh! Hope your neighbors dont have cats! I bet u dont check for chips in a way! And i hope there is age restriction on this page! Bec. Non feral cats can travel far away from home where they Are even loved by the family kids!😢❤ I dont know If female cats in heat or not do the travel like males! But Im happy Im not your neighbor , even do i have my Lamona fixed! 17:02

Well if a neighbour wasn’t responsible enough to keep their cats at home and let them roam I would shoot it even if it did have a collar on it. That’s how cats became feral in the first place. But just because a cat is a pet doesn’t stop them from killing the same a wild ones. Cats love to hunt and they often catch and kill little native animals etc just for fun. So the moral of the story is keep your cats locked up and don’t let them roam.

Thanks Paul. I’m not exactly sure. I did a firmware update on it (but not sure if that had anything to do with it) then a week or so later the screen would start glitching and I could only see half a picture. So I had to restart it and it was fine but then a week or so later it did it a few times again and then when I was away on my trip after dogs at Easter time I was out howling up that dog and it was glitching every few minutes and was driving me mad. So I email iAiming and they said send it back as it sounds like a connection problem with the screen. Then they said they couldn’t fix it and would have to get it replaced. So decided to spend the extra and get a better one that records sound as well. So I don’t think it’s a common problem so I’m pretty sure you will be happy with yours.

Yes I did notice that later when I looked at the footage on the computer but didn’t see it at the time unfortunately. It could have been another cat… The Dawson is about 20km from us so that’s why we don’t get as many pigs as people that are closer
