I just found your channel, I joined # 930. I've made this same lure with good results. To change it up some, Add a few drops or skunk, and /or freeze and crush black Licorish into a powder. Beaver castor and anise it great together. The skunk carries well when it gets below zero.

Thank you! I watched a lot of your videos, and appreciate your experience! I’ve tried the skunk essence with this also, the bobcats, and coyotes around here love it. Thanks for joining, and the tips!

Great tip thank you lure prices keep going up getting to where a trapper needs every tip to save on money.

Great point Mathew. I know castor prices are through the roof, but I don’t mind saving a few small ones out from the previous year to make this lure. I think It does help save some coin in the long run. Thanks for the comment!

I dry my castor first, then grind them in a hand meat grinder to make small/fine pieces and then add them to the Vaseline. I do need to put in an order for one of your Vaseline shovel, and coffee cups. Tight Chain.

Thank you Tom! I like quick and easy too. Sometimes people like us get more done by not over complicating things. Lol

Is there a certain type of vasolene to use didn’t know if some of them would have a smell that would interfere. Just curious

@@BLUEGRASSTRAPPER good question…. I just use the cheapest I can find. It doesn’t seem to make a difference

My wife once ground beaver castor in our coffee grinder, didn’t bother to wash it. Next day I couldn’t figure out wtf was wrong with my coffee, it tasted nothing like vanilla tho lol

Hahahahaha. I’ll bet that was a short coffee break that day. That’s a good story

Great idea, I’ve made castor lure with an old food processor, but don’t tell the lady at the thrift store what you’re using it for when you buy it, she looked at me like I was crazy 🤣

My wife had a small food chopper, that worked great for 3 seasons. It finally burnt up. I was making some coyote stretchers the other day, and went to the lumber yard. The guy asked what the lumber was for. I told him coyote stretchers… he gave me a blank stare. I couldn’t explain it enough to him. Lol.

I got in trouble and had to buy my Wife a new meat grinder......she came home early and caught me grinding mice for coyote bait! I figured meat's meat and it would clean up just fine.....she didn't feel the same way. Ha!

So I.ve never made any lure before, but I thought it would be more complicated than that. HOWEVER, I'm thinkin' I'm not gonna use my good coffee cup to mix it in, even though beaver castor is one of the sweetest smells on the trapline!

Does fresh castor work just as well?
@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790 Жыл бұрын
It definitely does work better. I just save one or two from the previous year to use. During the season I will make some lure with fresh, not dry castor. Good luck with it
