For reference, Mike Shinoda is one of the two frontmen for Linkin Park. Back in 2017 the other frontman, Chester Bennington, took his own life. The band did a concert in his honor along with a lot of their friends and family. The entire album "Post Traumatic" was Mike's way to deal with the grief, which is why you have songs like this one and Running from My Shadow

This was Mike Shinoda's way to grieve when the passing of his close friend and band mate Chester Bennington happened. If you didn't know my guy, these two formed the band we know now as Linkin Park; I've seen you do the reaction video to "In The End". Chester passed away back in 2017. The same year, the month of October they did a show in honor of Chester's life and the music they created. They had special guest artist and people who showed love and affection for Chester. Mike released this song along with others on the album "Post Traumatic" in the songs he talks about how he grieves the loss and he taps into what he does best in the album. All produced and made by the man himself; Mike Shinoda.

Mike Shinoda was the backup vocalist and pianist for Linkin Park. The friend who passed away was Chester Bennington, lead vocalist for Linkin Park. Their tribute show was amazing and is on youtube. Quite a few surprising artists attend and sing Chester's parts throughout the set out of mad respect. This song comes from Mike's first ever solo album, Post Traumatic. He made it as therapy and released it out of respect for his family, friends, and fans who are feeling the same as he is and to act as therapy for those grieving over Chester's passing, or anyone else's passing. It's a deep emotional album and well worth a full reaction. Mike Shinoda is a heavily slept on artist. Mike and Chester knew each other for more than 20 years. They were way more than friends, they were brothers.

The part of this that keeps me up at night is that it isn't just "you never know if you'll see them again". The realistic part, the hardest part, is knowing that sometimes they can't stand to be seen again. Sometimes saying hello will save them. Sometimes it will push them over the edge and we, those left behind, will never know what we could have done to carry our friend or family through those flames. "If only..." That's what we're left with. And it echoes over and over and over again.

Mike Shinoda was the vocalist in Linkin Park who did the rapping in their songs, and this was about how he felt pretty soon after Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park and one of his closest friends in the world, took his own life. A lot of Linkin Park's songs are about Chester's mental issues, while a lot of Mike's early songs after Chester's death are about how he's been feeling and how he's been dealing with the grief.

The album this song is on, Mike Shinoda’s “Post-Traumatic album” was mostly about Mike dealing with the loss of Chester Bennington. Why do I have the feeling you had no idea who Mike Shinoda is, going into this? Just in case no one explained to you yet: Mike Shinoda is the co lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist of Linkin Park. In this song he talks about the tribute show the band pit on in the wake of the other vocalist, Chester Bennington, 's death by suicide. Now, just so you can understand how terrible it was for him: he and Chester have known each other for 18 years. They were as close as friends can get, even calling each other 'brother' and having their wives and kids be friends. Mike basically lost his other half. To add onto that, the future of the band was put into question- so, both his career, and his identity, as for so long he'd been 'Mike from Linkin Park'. And he also had to deal with all the media attention- as the frontman, all the attention was directed at him; and he took it upon himself to help fans, who were also grieving. This guy had had his entire world upended and flipped on its head in one day. Him still making music, and openly discussing his grief, is a true testament to his strength and courage.
