Trash to Track. Episode 108. Mainline Std 4 loco.

Hello and Welcome to episode 108 of Trash to Track
In this episode we take a look at a Mainline Std 4 loc thats been sent in by Granville. This loco looks like it’s suffering from the usual split axel problem, but all is not as it seems. Let’s see if we can restore this model to its former glory.

Hi Dan. Another great fix buddy. Got a few mainlines from exhibition's, as you say good locos. I seem to have more trouble with the new ones than the old. Thanks for the great vlog Dan Thumbs up thumped 👍 .... Pete....

I have quite a few mainline locos, keep them well maintained and they run fine, still look good also

I have several mainline models and I love them. Had an issue with a Collett 0-6-0 tender loco whereby the brushes had melted in the brush keeper plate. Soni replaced the entire chassis with a later Replica railways chassis. I found the Replica one slightly better and smoother.

Hi Dan. I did the easy fix for these locos. I fitted Bachmann chassis . The clean state of this model makes me think it has been a shelf model and very rarely run.

I have a mainline class 45 and a number of coach's and wagons. And they are by today's standards pretty good.

Mainline were pretty revolutionary back in the day compared notably to Hornby. The level of detail was far superior! They were also loco drive, unlike Hornby and the other newcomer, Airfix (later GMR). There’s no denying it though, they make a horrible noise. Though the Class 45 diesel actually sounded quite authentic 😂

These Mainline locomotives are really good I've got a fair few, have you come across the plastic bulging on the main wheels ? I've got one that is suffering from this, it's on shed at the moment, thanks for sharing Dan, great video as always, John

Yes the bulging is common on early bachmann models. You can either remove the plastic, which removes the counter weight detail, or buy and fit new wheels.

So, on the Loco you replaced the top & bottom, but it was still the original model? It begins to sound a little like the "Ship of Theseus".

Yer it was a bit of a triggers broom model. But it was cheaper to buy the whole front end than it was a set of axels
