Trashcan Sinatras - I'm Immortal - live on No Stilettos 1993

'No Stilettos' was a short-lived BBC music series made by BBC Scotland in Glasgow, and presented by Eddi Reader. The programme was broadcast in 1993 on BBC2 in the UK and was recorded in the Cottier Theatre, a converted church in Glasgow's west-end.

I'm pretty sure a set of this band playing at a defunct Irish rock festival Feile (1993 or 1994) was broadcast on tv once. I wasn't at the festival; I watched a bit on tv; and this was the only band that caught my ear, but I didn't hear (of) them again for ten years after that...when a free cd in a newspaper, including the track Weighlifting, reminded me of them and persuaded me to look out for the album of the same name. And the rest is contemporary or history, depending on what way your brain waves are functioning. antennas, baby, I'm tuned into them somewhere, said the teenage geek.

the self-immolation on the stage/altar at 3:02 shouldn't seem either funny or appropriate but somehow it is. "speaking of tongues, baby" - should be "speaking in tongues, baby" in the funny and incorrect way I hear this song.

These guys are talented songwriters. Tisn't really 'scots-west-coast-delta-blues': tis the melancholy of a poet. Are they underrated? Not really. Because you can't rate poetry. And then they get their salary paid in thrupenny tears.
