1:21:28 Man, it is definitely tough to get the proposal correct. We went on vacation to Maine, Mt Desert Island, and my idea was to propose at Otter Cliffs in Acadia. We start walking Ocean Path trail from Sand Beach and about half way through, my parents and wife were getting tired and I'm trying to keep them pushing on. We turn back and just drive to the cliff as I try to iterate its really important to see it. My mom is a photographer on the side so I wanted to make sure she had enough space left on her memory card but here she is, taking pictures of a sea gull while I'm trying to give her subtle hints... thankfully she had enough space to get some pictures but it felt like everything was going to go wrong.

To my ear, "chilly" is to Chile as "kiyodo" is to Kyoto. When I moved to the mainland US from Hawaii, I was about 10 years old and it was the first time I heard Japanese words and names being pronounced *like that*. My teacher was excitedly telling me about her adventures in "kiyodo" after I told her my mom had just moved back to the US from Japan, and it took me a few minutes to figure out where "kiyodo" was. It was worse than hearing my non-Japanese cousin tell me she liked "Top Raymen". Chilly-ness aside, British pronunciation of tapas ("tap-ass") never fails to make me giggle. 😹

It is very, very hard to get off work for more than maybe a week or if lucky 2, in any month if it is not July/August. omg when they were talking about getting recognized in Japan I felt so bad because I ran into Joey and Aki in harajuku recently and I did exactly what they said don't do which is straight up ask for a photo right away. I thought it was too weird to randomly strike up a conversation since it looked like they were heading somewhere and honestly it was more because I was so nervous I couldn't say anything coherently. I wanted to just tell them thank you for always creating such amazing content but my mind went blank and I felt like I was holding them up. Even before going to Japan I watched Joey's interview with Roland san and a podcast episode instead of packing and almost missed my flight. So I want to convey to them that they are such meaningful people in my life but all I could do was ask for a photo and say I really like your videos. I feel so bad I was that type of person. On the topic of the foreigner speaking language videos, xiaomanyc or xiaoma is the guy who started it and is legitimately the goat. His title formats are what everyone uses now but his videos are actually good because you can tell he has such geniune enthusiasm for learning about different and lesser known languages and cultures. Not just for the clicks
