I see what you are saying but then what? Should they add another compressed gauze? Should they add a SWAT-T? What I am saying is you can add what you want but every time we tell companies to do this and that you could be baby stepping your way to this kit being too expensive and too large. I do think adding the shears to your personal kit is a good idea and since they don’t include it, you can choose X-shears, 2$ shears, etc. Nice idea to think about trauma shears.👍🏻

If it still fits the kit, in addition to the Needle Dec. Needle I‘d also add some kind of rescue/„space“ blanket to the advanced kit so I avoid hypothermia from the beginning and keep my patient‘s blood clotting as I want it too.

I wish they would make an all velcro version of the insert and follow the same idea as their backpacks- so you can custom fit your own loops/mesh pockets/etc. I love the tkn but not the way the loops are setup. I snagged one of their "large" tkns a few years ago which I wish they'd also bring back

Seems like there's room in that advanced kit for a bit of duct tape, burn dressing, pair of shears, decomp needle, extra eye guard, sharpie, and some ibuprofin, and you've got yourself a well rounded full size IFAK.

I have to build my own first aid kid (ifak) since I have often forgotten my main medical kit in the car. I have used a chocolate eggshell and it has gone pretty well. The experience makes me too confident for short walks to the point it can hurt :( I noticed I tend to intentionally forget my main medical kit in the car to save weight because "I can always jump back for it if needed". By "short walks" I mean mountain trips for 1-2 kilometers away from the car. I have used to consider this a small distance but suddenly realized that depending on the injury it could turn to a "far distance". Then I have started thinking of a solution. I have researched all mini medical kits. But then a problem occurs! As a difference to my mine medical kid where I have pills especially selected to my problems and often injuries all the kits that are sold out are with too basic equipment (bands, cotton, etc). I realized I already have these basics and could build my own kit. But in that kit, I'll add all the pills and tools I need. First I needed to find a stable and small enough box for it. Luckily my kids love chocolate eggs and I had a few plastic eggshells around. Get my main medical kit and start working. And tadaa! I believe I have prepared one of the smallest and full IFAK kits ever. (update: I have recently cut myself in the forest and this eggshell save me from bleeding) Here is what I've got in my pocket-size IFAK: Stomach help Active carbon Water purifying tablets Anty allergenic 2 x Safety Pins Hand sanitizer Straw Toothpaste Straw 3 x Bands Compressed Cotton Micro knife Do you have a mini IFAK with you? What would be a good kid carry on a duty belt? I have a tourniquet mounted on my belt but because my backup is anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes at the very least from me at any given time I need something that I can mount my belt but not simple key to get in and out of my patrol car. Based on new studies, you do not want to cover both eyes unless is damage to both eyes or is an impaled object in one of the eyes. Studies have shown that is you cover just one eye, movement will not create more damage. This is part of the new guidelines for eye injuries, and it is included in the new COTCC guidelines. The good thing about the eye shield is that prevent applying pressure to the eye which can create a compartment syndrome type injury on the eye area.

its made from a 1000D Cordura, wow you can use it as a Rifle Plate pretty much lol, I had seen IIIA armor made from 500D I can only assume 1000D can stop a rifle round, even though I don't think it would, worth it to take it out to the range with Demolition Ranch to give it a try, if it can, then for $80 starting price its well worth it lol, good to know some vital equipment will be as safe as I would be

I think you might be confusing materials... Almost every high end pouch is made with cordura nylon and none of them will stop bullets of any caliber.

My experience with duct tape is that it mends with the surface it is taped on. A colleague of mine said theyd tried duct taping on bare chest and left it for a couple of hours. Skin came off with the tape.

#PrepMedic Brother two questions. Can't the casualty still see with the eye shield they provide? TCCC wise would you want a casualty who can somewhat see where both of you are going in terms of survivability?

*It depends on the situation.If you're in the wild and your patient needs to hike for miles before you get to the nearest hospital, then cover just the injured eye.* *If your patient is in the ambulance or carried on a stretcher you can cover both eyes.* *Of course if you're taking enemy fire and your patient needs to return fire after an eye injurey then don't cover the non-injured eye.*
