Thank you so much, Katie, for this series!!! I’m about two years or less away from retirement (just turned 65), and after watching you for years, I know I want to travel like you did, and I definitely WILL!! You are a godsend, Katie! 😘 I will absorb everything in this series, and I can’t wait to get out on the road. For the first time in my life, I’ll both have financial security AND time, and I’m ready. I love you, Katie!!!

Just want to add a word of caution about using flip flops for shower shoes because they can be very slick. Also, the part that goes between your toes can come out of the sole. Water shoes are better, I think, because they have treaded soles. The rest of the shoe is mesh. They sell them at Walmart and Target in the summer.

My lease ended last month and decided to move into my car by choice since I'm working remotely and wanted to travel (safely.) I have a few things in storage at my mom's house, but otherwise everything I need on day-to-day is in my Mazda CX-5, including my 60 lb dog, Ollie. We have stayed with family/friends some, but we've slept in my car for many, many nights already in several different states. I learned a lot from watching your videos but continue to learn more about what I do/don't need, best places to sleep, how to keep me (and more importantly my dog) cool at night, etc. Having a large dog definitely adds a whole extra element to EVERYTHING, but it also makes me feel safer in general so that's a bonus. :) Going to add a few more things to my Amazon cart from your recs! Thanks!

Ive lived in my car for nearly 2 years I chose not to have a cooking stove because i dont cook so it was not necessary as i used to buy a coffee when using toilet facilities etc which is more expensive than having a stove etc but its lifestyle choices etc everyone is different I didnt have solar although would have if i live in a xar again A collapsible toilet would be advisable as would a big plastic tub with an air tight lid on it etc A 12v shower that costs about £20 for remote off grid showers etc Plus a couple of the big 5 litre water containers you see in supermarkets which only cost about £2 ish for 5 lites of water etc Plus make sure you get good reflectics eg covers for your windows to give you privacy when parked up Make sure you have a full service on your car and that your car has passed a 12 month inspection of roadworthiness and pay your years car insurance and roadfund for the year ahead in full and not by installments purely because if you struggle to find enough work on the road you wont want monthly insurance payments or vehicle expenses you cannot afford to pay because you didnt earn enough that mibth to pay for them etc Make sure you can extend your legs fully in your driving seat etc and that your driving seat is comfy enough to sleep in so if you are 6ft tall etc youll need at least a mid to large hatchback saloon so you can extend your legs fully in tge srivers seat to prevent you from getting cramp etc if legs bent for too many hours in car etc Make sure you devise a way of being able to sleep in a car when temperatures are below freezing which duribg the yeae they will be and that you can cope with that etc I did sleep in a car when the temperatures went below zero with no heating and tgere is a way of doing that Make sure you have either a credit card or debit card with at least £1500 available on it just incase of any unexpected vehicle expense etc And becone a domain name investor And A day trader Which are two ootential remote jobs you can do from your car or a coffee shop etc I did vlog my life living in my car which you can see on my other youtube channel Numberplate guy Hope these tips help those planning on living in a car

Weather Tech makes window sun shades that fit your car windows exactly ... not that expensive considering you would use them every night. They are black on one side and reflective on the other side. You give them the make, model and year of your car. They fit your windows exactly, well made, and very light weight too. Go in your windows fast. I think they would also help cut down on heat or cold, too. When I put them on my car and get inside ... it feels very cozy. I think I paid $148. for the whole set. From an outsider, it would look like your just using sun shades to protect the entire car, and they might not realize your actually living/sleeping in the car. Even during the day, if you wanted to work in your car ... I think you’d be more comfortable especially when it’s hot.

I just loved this video, I’m thinking of traveling to my brothers from California to Arizona. And instead of motels I will be taking my time and living in car. I had to live in my car when my daughter got in car wreck and I couldn’t be by her side in hospital ( that was out of town) because her father was by her side. She felt safer with dad by her side. I understood. So they only allowed one parent to be in her room. I couldn’t afford the motels so the car was my space. So I think I could travel again in my car. I’m older now but I’m going to try. Thankyou young lady ♥️this is lady from California 😘✌🏼

CA is not very car living friendly. AZ doesn't care. I would recommend a van that you can seal yourself away in, park on a public street (walk thw block to make sure signage is legal) and just don't answer a knock on the door.

The main issue for me would be showering. I feel gross when I don't shower before bed every night so going days and days without showering would be really hard to get used to especially during summer or warmer days. Also intestinal "emergencies" would definitely be a concern and having to use public restrooms all the time would probably be tough for clean freaks/germaphobes.
@GrantTravels234 жыл бұрын
It has actually been proven that you are doing yourself more harm by showering every night. You body produces its sweat and oil for a reason. You can always get a gym membership, or baby wipes to stay clean. Some travel centers and beaches have free showers.
@jessicah34503 жыл бұрын
Yeah she used Planet Fitness for showers and truck stop bathrooms. I picked up the worst fungal infection from a public shower even though I was wearing shower shoes. I don't think I could turn my "germophobe switch" completely off. But since many gyms are closed during this pandemic, I have seen another car dweller who takes sponge baths and fills jugs with water to take roadside showers, but it's dangerous. There are these camp showers that are pretty much a fancy bag with a spout on the bottom that hold 5 gallons of water, so you use that, and use your car as kind of a barrier for privacy.

One important thing g I recommend that you buy is an emergency car escape tool. If you have a wreck and need to get out of the car quickly, you will be able to cut your seatbelt and break the window to escape. I'm buying them for my kids and all of our cars. Tfs

Having a battery powered or solar powered watch as a backup to your phone could be important. Some have a compass which can be helpful if you are hiking or camping where there is limited or spotty cellular service. Redundancy in general is a good idea. Experience is the best teacher and you often don’t know or can’t forsee what could happen until it does happen. Things like pens and paper and stamps,even a stray binder clip,can all be useful. Another great collection of knowledge..👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁

I rigged up a direct dc power off the van battery so that I had power whether or not the van was on. Then I have a 5 gallon trash bucket/emergency toilet and a bunji cord to hang my clothes on. Then I have a bed. I also recommend 3 phones or a tablet. Phones even when they do not have active cell service, can still call 911 if necessary. So I always carry an old phone and keep it charged. A battery jumper would also be a good thing to have.
