Travel Gear Organization: Summer 2014 Travel Series

Hey fellow subscribers, unlike a lot of you who thought that jen had a lot, we who are from india and travel from us to india often, we have aquired a lot of different sized luggage for different needs.i have struggled with organising them, so thank you jen for this. Not everybody has the room for such a beautiful display but a lot of these tips can be used for any size space. Thanks jen!

I don't have as much closet space in my house as you do, but I do the same type of thing, on a smaller scale. I tend to pack my small travel items either in bins, or inside the suitcases themselves to try to save space.

Suitcases are great places to store things when not in use. They're just like a bin :)

@ 15.47 "I just throw the things in the bag!" Face it Jen, that is an oxymoron if ever there was one! You never just throw anything in a bag! You're the queen of organisation right down to the last cotton swab you put in your bags and we love you for it and your organisational vids too :) Keep them coming and never again say that you throw things in a bag, because girl from what Ive seen, you DONT!!!!!

That's a lot of luggage. We have four of the 28" and two 25" Eagle Creek blue luggage now for two years. They are huge and worth the money. You are giving me some great tips about keeping traveling items in containers near your luggage. I usually will have to run out to the store for things and search like a lunatic for other items. Great post.

Hi Jen, I think your so sweet, you have some great tips. It's nice that we sometimes get to meet your husband also. My name is Susan and I live in Queensland Australia. At 59 I still need help looking after our home and how to store things. We moved 6 months ago and having every thing looking nice and in order makes us feel so much better each day. holy crap! I spent 7 weeks in South Africa in a medium sized suitcase and would never go back to anything bigger nor do I need options--even with kids! but we also live downtown, so space is much more precious! have fun on your travels!

I absolutely love Eagle Creek. We do not travel much, but they are such good quality and last forever! Such a good investment! We are going to Disney World in October and I am already trying to figure out packing! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the rest of this series!

Organization goals! I have been trying to stash away travel size items as I find them (BBB is great for collecting them!) But it just winds up being a mess and when I am ready to travel I am still running around trying to buy items. This I can do. I just need to get my walk in closet as organized as yours.

BRIlLLIANT!!! I just wish I had the room for the storage containers. We also travel frequently and I am always searching for THAT THING. I try to group in categories but to keep everything in one place is invaluable. I am inspired!!!!

I would love you see your preparation video. The choosing of different outfits, developing lists and everything that happens before putting everything into the pack it cubes and the suitcase. This was a fun video, thanks for sharing! I miss having a walk-in-closet. It's so much nicer than my armoire....(while it looks nice, aesthetically - it takes up a BUNCH of space) I loved how the closet was it's own separate space. Walk-in-closets aren't so common here in Germany. (I grew up in Connecticut) :-)

I really think its worth mentioning bed bugs. No matter how exspensive or budget friendly the hotel is they all can have them. I leave luggage in the garage in a sealed bag and promptly wash all items in it. The closet is the worst place to store your luggage.

Jen you mentioned you have an upcoming trip to Italy? Would be interesting to see how you pack for an international trip as all your current videos are based on domestic trips. It would be interesting to see the difference :)

Hi Jen, thanks for the ideas on how to use the soft sided storage boxes in the closet! How do you keep track of the expiration dates of the back up travel size products you keep? Same question for your beauty products kept in your vanity. I love keeping back up products, but generally do not keep more than I could use in a one to two year period to ensure they don't expire. Thanks!! :-)

I personally don't worry too much about products since I keep everything out of the light and in a cool climate controlled home. If something looks or smells "off" then I toss it. You have to figure out what you're comfortable with.

Organized Like Jen I think you travel enough to use up your products, especially in small travel bottles. I would however worry about the sunscreen. I'd check the dates and toss any that had sat out in the heat while at the beach.

I saw you have trunks in your closet i have the same one! When i go to camp i use it and its always such a mess i go for 2 weeks and have to fit shower towels pool towels toiletries, clothes, can you give me some tips on packing?

I travel about every two months, sometimes every month. I have thought of putting all my toiletries in a bag and leaving them there ready to go, but I worry about things spoiling after a while and I wouldn't want my expensive face creams to go bad. Have you ever had this problem?

Hi Jen! Im in desperate need of your advice i have watched your channels for a long time and your decication is amazing i love it all! So thankyou! But Im a single mum here in Australia and I really desperatly need to get organised so question is before I buy a planner i need your help in witch one as shipping to us is soooo expensive I will need to be able to take it with me always as kids have a ton of appointment (I have 2) and i have just gone back to work to make sure we are covered. So between work, 2 different daycares specialist appointments for my daughter and every day appointments, shopping lists and everything else i need somthing to keep me grounded lol So witch do you think in your opion would be best? The first time I saw one of your videos was because you had the exact same luggage that I have. The blue sherpani meridian ? and tote. Did you get rid of it? It use to be able to carry on, but now not. So I have purchased other luggage, but just can't give up my sherpani.

Organized Like Jen You donated yours?? That's very generous. I would have bought the Meridian from you. I bought my Hemisphere & I'll never part with it. I find the zipped up bottom compartment so useful and I always get compliments at the airport when I'm walking with it. I was lucky to get a sample model in dazzle blue (with the matching Sojourn carry on) that doesn't have those oversized carry handles. I regret not getting the matching Meridian. Sherpani has gone weird. Their stuff has become really ugly. I won't shop with them anymore.

That was my first thought when you went through the main luggage was where is the blue Sherpani. That seemed like a really great case. I've just got myself an EC Gear Warrior for my next trip but I don't think I'll be able to part with my older case as I've had it about 13 years. I might just have to use it as storage or something.

I would like to see a vlog where you talk about how you decide how to organize everything. I love what you've done here but I don't know how I would execute it myself. Do you draw up a plan ahead of time and write down what you want to do so you have a loose idea? I think that is my biggest problem with organization, I'm just not sure how to "file" items. I don't really do much advance prep in that way TBH. I generally work through my organization in a trial & error basis. If something doesn't work, I know it, because it doesn't stay organized.

Italy--Be very aware of Pickpocket. (children, teens, old ladies, etc). If possible, get a backpack pickpocket poof and small lock for extra safety . Have fun.
