I did this for the first time in 2018 when I went to Japan and it was the most easiest/convenient way to get around. Now I make sure to do it all the time traveling. Although I've never actually built out maps on google, I just save all of them on my google maps app on my phone. It harder to make day itineraries because of that, so instead I organize them out of my preference of importance. Your way is definitely a lot more structured and less chaotic. For anyone else reading I would definitely recommend Staring key places on your map like your hotel, airport, meeting locations, etc.
@SheRunTheWorld Жыл бұрын
So good to know!! Yeah that’s probably the quicker mobile solution to just star it all directly on your phone if you didn’t have enough time to make it before hand. And great tip, definitely starting key places like your hotel is important! Thanks so much for your comment :)

I'm doing it in similar way, but I'm dividing points between layers (called e.g. day 1, day 2...) and then set the same style for whole layer. That way you select color only once and then just drag points between layers.

I stayed at the Orange Drive Hostel in LA, and they had one of these maps available for guests to see the sites. AMAZING! I didn't realize they are so easy to make! Game changer. Thank you! I'm in the planning stages of an 8-night trip. Am I crazy? Three nights in Edinburgh (car rental to Glenfinnan Viaduct and Highlands on one of the days), train to Liverpool for 1 night (I'm a Beatles fan), train to London for 2 nights, train to Paris for 2 nights. The Eurostar has been on my bucket list for years, and I'm looking forward to driving in Scotland, so this trip has a lot of, "getting there is half the fun" about it. 🙂

@@SheRunTheWorld I'm traveling with my 30-year-old son, who was a Harry Potter FREAK when he was young, so the trip will definitely be filled with MAGIC. haha Thanks for your helpful videos! I think for London, we arrive late afternoon, so we're going to the HP studio that night (what a trek!), then possibly a city bike tour the second day. We catch the Eurostar in the afternoon on the 3rd day. For Paris, I thought we'd do a Seine River tour that night, then wander aimlessly the second day. We fly home on the third day. I've been to both London and Paris (1980s), so I've experienced most of the touristy sites. My son's only request was the HP stuff. He's not big on museums, and I'm like you about going inside the buildings. The outside architecture and scenery is stunning on its own. Best example in my opinion is Amsterdam.

It's helpful but I'm wondering if it can also map out the route. For example, we flew to Vegas, stayed down in Boulder for the Hoover Dam, drove over to the Grand Canyon, spent a couple days there then drove over to Monument Valley and spent a couple days there (with one day driving over to Page AZ for Horseshoe Bend and Slot Canyons. We then left Monument Valley and went to Moab UT for CanyonLands and Arches NP, then over to Zion for a few days, then back to Vegas. It would be nice to see the distances and time to drive between each major area.

Such a helpful video! Thank you. We’ve tried changing the pin color on our saved map on an iPhone, iPad, & Mac, but on none of them can we find the option to change the color of the pin like you did. What are we missing?

Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. Hmm that’s a good question I don’t think you can edit the saved map on your phone or iPad. But not sure why it’s not working on the Mac. I always am editing my map on Google Chrome on my MacBook Air and it works just fine for changing pin colors or any other edit!

Super helpful video, thank you! I have the exact same issue here though, unable to get any option to change colour of pins like you did. Read this comment and switched from Safari to Google Chrome in my MacBook Air, still doesn’t work! Hope to find a way to do this before my trip in few days’ time!

Hi, do you know how to use the car direction in each layer?
@SheRunTheWorld3 ай бұрын
Hi! Honestly I never use the layers, but I’d imagine you’d just click on the layer in your app and the directions would automatically pop up But it’s super easy to not have any layers, just all pins, and when you’re in the car just click the next pin and get directions! I do that with walking all the time :)

@SheRunTheWorld Thanks for responding :) For some reason, I created one layer and I could add directions there and I chose car, but since I am doing a massive trip ( 3 countries with our van and 2 brompton bikes ) I thought to create diferent layers for each city, a layer for each big city with the directions if I will visit lots of sightseeing by bike. I'm not sure why I create a layer and have no option to select any transport, but the only option is to draw a line, which I think is silly. Maybe I am over complicating and should not bother with directions🤔.
