Live and learn. You def want to plan for 1:1 training. The school works for 9/10 people. At the end of the day its a business, and they do everything they can to make it work for all skill levels but you have a unique situation.

Yep, my personal style is just 1:1 and that's okay. It's still a fantastic training for any rider to go to this.

I was in this class. I saw myself in the video too, thanks. I just made my own review of the school from that day. almost two years later! i understand what you're saying about the aggressive riders. I was able to avoid most of them by going out last each session or letting the worst offenders get far ahead of me.

Nice to meet you, virtually. Good strategy you had. I should have toughed it out but in the moment, it was just too much aggression and I didn't feel I could learn when people were pushing me around.

@@AdamChandler86 I could see why you felt the way you did. I remember a few older guys riding like jerks for no reason. Trying to relive their younger years maybe.

Hi Adam, I was in same school as you and I too almost didn't show up for second day but I am glad that I went back even if I was intimidated , second day was lot of fun and lots of trail braking into the corners. Looking at some of the riders it looks like you were riding in group 1 , at the beginning of the class Danny asked everyone to introduce themselves and talk about there riding history and I think based on that he divided us into 3 groups. I was in group 3 and group 3 was no way competitive we were all slow :) . I would encourage you to give it another shot and ask to be bumped into slower group . As a relatively new ride I had fun and will go back again. Nice Vlog

Looks like great school to go learn and practice new stuff .... Very nice video and story too, there is no shame at all, everyone has different skills, ability and mental management . I think is very smart what you did, you analyzed your comfort zone and you handled it like a pro.... I was sponsor athlete for quite some time and only self observing kept me alive, many times the lack of self-control ending up ugly!!! I am proud of you what you did, how you managed it and mostly you didn't hide this experience deep inside, you are the maaaan maaan, keep ridding and exploring new limits in your comfort zone, cheers V!

Thanks for sharing, I was afraid walking away was a reflection of me being a quitter or a character flaw. Part of my vlog diary that’s laid out here for everyone to judge is that I’m just going to be myself even if it shows a side of me that’s not perfect. I hope the owner of this company doesn’t think I’m giving him a bad review. I just didn’t vibe with that kind of training and went home.

Interesting perspective! I’m pretty competitive by nature and everything you described as being bad for you personally sounds really fun to me lol. To each their own though, no need to feel bad about ‘doing you’. You’re a grown man and you do what you want! I’m looking forward to going next month

Thanks Ethan. You're going to have fun. The instructors are VERY hands on, talented, honest. It's not a hand-holding baby-camp.

Hello Adam, I totally agree with your decision "to walk away" from this riding camp! I am almost certain that you learned a few technical points but that "competitive" and push/bump and shove is not what you/we want to excel into. Anyway, as usual it was enjoyable watching another one of your videos! Can't wait for the 701 to get out in the dirt! Cheers

It was a great time for people who are kind of competitive. I'm just in my head too much to feel like I could improve while people were all around me. Ive been using the skills all week though! I'm now constantly using what I learned, the body position, seat position, arm position...it all works exactly like they said and I'm turning much tighter now so in no way was this a waste of time of money!

Thanks for sharing - I was considering going this month to the non-racer camp but I'm exactly the same way as you are in terms of wanting to learn and get better but not interested in being aggressive or passing people. The other comment about there being multiple groups is a little encouraging but I'm going to have to think about this.

Don't get me wrong, the instructors are great. I am just very uncompetitive and like to ride my own ride and I got overwhelmed.

@@AdamChandler86 Yes - I could see that happening. My local track school is the same way - quality instruction but the experience with late passing and crowding can vary depending upon the group that day. But there is more of a bubble around each rider there. They do say 'ride your own ride' but it comes with an asterisk. The dirt track with tight turns probably amplifies this type of thing.

Good post.... solid and honest. I went to RawHyde last year for some training and had some concerns going there. Concerns along the lines that you experienced. When you get 10, 20 or 30 anxious trainees together its nearly impossible not to get some over boiling Type A behavior. Much to my surprise, RawHyde's training program and coaches structure and stabilize the environment so it is a learn at your own pace environment. You get the point and frankly I believe I would have left RawHyde if it had turned out to be similar to your experience - as I went there for personal growth not to win a prize.

"riding your own ride" which some people can do in a group and I can't. Very similar situation..I've left a couple of group rides where I knew I'd have to be stressed or too focused to enjoy it and keep up with them. I like to enjoy the ride, not race and so it's a similar mentality. I've met a few rawhide trainers and they all have a very similar approach to riding & training, it's kind of like a cult but in a good way :)

@@AdamChandler86 Inversely the BMW BMW US Rider Academy environment was conducive to learning / training for you. Similar to RawHyde ,,,, adventure bike focused community. The BMW US Rider Academy is on my to-do list.... now to find open spots !!

I think the instructors should have set up another identical course for you. I don't think that would have been difficult.

That's a good point but this is an organization around for 25 years and their formula clearly works both business wise and in the satisfaction of their students and returning students. Every time I attend one of these trainings, they always offer 1:1 lessons if you want to pay for it. I have done these exercises on my own after the fact and will continue to do so. The technique definitely works! I just needed to be in my head a bit more.

@@AdamChandler86 I see what you're saying and they're valid points but still an education provider still has an obligation to provide a constructive teacher-to-student (or in this case, facility-to-student) ratio. It seems they made the option to upgrade to one-on-one available, but that track looks way too tight and unsafe for that many riders, even as a 'base' package. I guess what's important is that you're still practicing the skills on your own. Keep striving!
