I am willing to bet that the fear of what one will do for money if they move abroad is the biggest thing preventing people from moving to another country.

Hello, Jeanne! For the record, I followed the business model about freelancing that you guys covered in the last video, and found a permanent client within 24 hours who keeps me so busy as a ghostwriter that I barely have time to do anything else. I set my Upwork profile to invisible because I can't possibly accept more work. Mike--I've heard people call you a "character." Well, now you really are. LOL! I fictionalized a version of you and put that in a novel that I'm ghostwriting. Couldn't resist. The setup was just too perfect. 😂

Ciao Gege. Thanks Michael. Another person that just went all in and had a win! Hahaaaah! CR is a lot more accessible, and travel/living abroad than people think. Get an online job, your passport, driver's license, and bank accounts/cards/processors in order, a couple of suitcases, and you're good to go man. It may seem scary if you're inexperienced with uncertain environments, but man is it a lot more supportive and an ease to navigate when you just talk to people who live here and ask for help. People want to help, and its not often I've ever seen someone say no. Happy travels!

What are the rules for collecting social security from the U.S.? Do you have to return to the states for a full month, every 6 months?

Hi, @KathrynCummings1, I am not a professional and don't know the official answer to your question. I do know many people here collecting SS. They live here permanently, and their SS is deposited into their US bank accounts without an issue. This would be a great question for your CPA. 😊

Thanks! I’ll look into it. I’m in ‘planning mode’ of moving to CR. Lots of financial reorganization lol I’m trying to cover as many bases as I become aware of for the near and distant future. So much information out there can be overwhelming !lol.

@14:35. I can relate to that. I just landed in San Jose, and the hotel mamager speaks so fast I cannot understand her. I ask her to slow down, and she repeats herself, but I still can't understand. She then tried to type it into google translate, and I realized that she does not distinguish between the words. For examole, instead of saying - "Me hizo" - she would say and write "mizo", which is not a word. I can understand Spanish spoken by educated people who speak corectly, and I can understand all the video instructors, but I expect that the words are spoken like they would be written in correct Spanish.

Thank you for the information, guys! The job market is so competitive right now, and it's so great to see how you are overcoming that. I'm going to start looking into freelance, and may hit you up one of these days. Thanks again! And great work!! You should get a gold watch anyway. 😁

Very interesting. There is probably going to be more interest in freelancing like this from Costa Rica as many US companies have called employees back into the office for three days a week. Not that they were ever living in Costa Rica, but this dry season there probably will not be as many US workers down there for a few months at a time as during the last few years. (Btw, I was watching some of the videos on here from 13 years ago last night, the Arenal Lake party boat and a couple from San Jose-really interesting to see how things have evolved.)

Watching the video I had a question. Why can't you work if you move to Costa Rica?
@teriyakiwilson707211 ай бұрын
I'm assuming the jobs are reserved for permanent residents folks down there. The reality of foreigners coming down without legal proper permanence taking jobs that locals can perform is borderline colonization. Unless you have a business start up your own and include Ticos to work for you. The idea of moving down without legal permanent residency is out of the question.
@barco58111 ай бұрын
Like most countries you are just a tourist and can't legally work.
@flipsidefishin782211 ай бұрын
@@teriyakiwilson7072 Gotcha. Thanks! How long does it take to become a permanent resident?
@teriyakiwilson707211 ай бұрын
@@flipsidefishin7822 look at this guys channel!! But 5 years I believe assuming you do rentista. Or maybe it's after the 3-year mark on the categories(rentista/investor/retirement-social) that you begin the permanent residency application. Which takes time expanding to the 5 year mark
