Το φίλμ τελειώνει με τα λόγια "Today Greece rises once again in all her proud and perennial glory to take her honoured place among those liberty loving nations...". 60 χρόνια μετά η Ελλάδα με το κεφάλι κάτω σαν άτακτο παιδί δέχεται την χλεύη και τις επιπλήξεις των εταίρων της και την τιμωρία που της επιβάλλουν για τις αταξίες της.....

I left Greece a long time ago, but I still can remember my Yiaya and mom singing along with Nana Mouskoli. If I dare listen to one of her old songs on youtube, my eyes tear up. Would be nice to visit Greece again, I hear prices are out of this world though..

Thank you for uploading this, It reminded me of my childhood. Βρε παιδια, ευκολο ειναι να λεμε "Αααχχ τι ωραια ηταν η Ελλαδα τοτε, και πως καταντησε σημερα... κλαψ..." Ααασε ΜΗΝ παραπαραπονιομαστε, Ωραιο και βουκολικο φαινεται στο στημενο βιντεο για τους ιθαγενεις απογονους των ενδοξων Αρχαιων, αλλα εκεινα τα χρονια ηταν μαυρα. Αμεσως μετα απο την φοβερη καταστροφη του Β'ΠΠ πηγαμε και βγαλαμε τα ματια μας μονοι μας με Εμφυλιο. ΦΤΩΩΩΧΙΑ, και δυστυχια βασιλευε, οι ανθρωποι παντα ελπιζαν για καλυτερο αυριο, αλλα υπηρχε διαχυτη η καχυποψια, φοβοταν ο κοσμος να μιλησει, μεταναστευση σε ολες τις οικογενειες. οταν ετρωγαν κρεας ηταν γιορτη, οσοι ειχαν ενα σαραβαλακι, ηταν πλουσιοι... Αντε εξηγησε τα αυτα στα σημερινα μιλλενιαλ πιτσιρικια οταν κολλαει το Αππλικεσιο και δεν παιρνουν αρκετα λαικς στο φατσοβιβλιο και στα τουιτερ.

Τότε μετανάστευαν εργάτες. Σήμερα μεταναστεύουν όλα τα μορφωμένα παιδιά. Φτώχεια τότε, αλλά και τώρα. Έχεις δίκαιο, τα χρόνια τότε ήταν δύσκολα, αλλά τουλάχιστον υπήρχε ανθρωπιά και ελπίδα για ένα καλύτερο μέλλον. Σήμερα δεν μπορείς να ονειρεύεσαι. Η Ελλάδα θα είναι χρεωμένη για τα επόμενα 100 χρόνια και βάλε...

the first scene and the one at 7:30 are not shot in Athens but in the Ancient Theatre of the Sanctuary of Asklepios in Epidauros (Argolis, Peloponnese)

τουλάχιστον στα χωριά της Ηπείρου έτσι ήταν. Ακόμη και πριν 20 χρόνια έβλεπες μερικές γιαγιάδες με παραδοσιακά φορέματα να τα φορούν για καθημερινά ρούχα.

@hoesey Don't need to leave the comfort of your home then, rent some DVD and keep watching documentaries on youtube. Some other people are aware that "tourism" is not necessarily being treated like a King, but mingling with locals and getting a taste of everyday's life, which I need to admit, is not always that easy in this country. You shouldn't hate your trips but say thank god you have the opportunity to see sth different, and having visited a land blessed with much more beauty than your own.

@furrygreek5 It is not the "governments" fault...this is an easy scapegoat. It is the Greek people who demanded certain things from the government. This is no one's fault but the people..and until the people realize this, things will not get better.

Sadly they have demolished the great mansions and it is all soviet style blocks now. Eg Glyfada and Boula up until ten years ago they used to be wealthy suburbs with villas, they are now full of modern crappy apartment blocks and shopping malls.

@theRIOTdog1 Άξιζε επειδή μεγάλωνες σαν πραγματικός άνθρωπος, άξιζε επειδή μάθαινες από μικρός στις κακουχίες και κανείς δεν σου παρουσίαζε έναν ιδανικό κόσμο που δεν αντιπροσωπεύει τίποτα παραπάνω από μία ουτοπία, άξιζε επειδή υπήρχε ο στοιχειώδης σεβασμός από τους ξένους αλλά και σεβασμός μεταξύ των ανθρώπων. Όλοι μαζί προσπαθούσαν να ξαναχτίσουν από την αρχή μία καινούρια Ελλάδα για ένα καλύτερο αύριο, που κάποιοι θέλησαν αλλά και κατάφεραν να γκρεμίσουν.

@jjgreek1 I am also Greek American. I lived in the US for 40 years and i am now living in Greece. Unlike yourself young man I do not blame the entire the country for the mistakes of the goverment.The U.S.will always hold a special place in my heart and i think it's great that you stand up for your country. But the U.S. is 15 trillion in debt ,I don't blame the american people, I blame the U.S. government. They did not ask my vote when they bailed out the banks or the auto industry.

@theRIOTdog1 Το πρώτο σχόλιό μου το έγραψα πριν καν δω το βίντεο. Δεν ξέρω αν φταίει ο ξένος, ούτε ο μετανάστης, ούτε καν εμείς οι ίδιοι. Το θέμα είναι ότι ενώ οι περισσότεροι προχωρούν μπροστά, εμείς μένουμε στάσιμοι σε μία εποχή που χειρότερή της δεν υπάρχει και δυστυχώς η αδιαφορία (σχεδόν) όλων μας να βρούμε την αιτία που μας κρατάει καθηλωμένους είναι και ο λόγος που άρχισε ήδη η καθοδική πορεία της χώρας μας.

@jjgreek1 an imf official statement was that it would be crazy to think that greece can repay its debt. Ur money goes into private banks suport programs, u say greece is bailed i say if we had bankrupted 3 years today things would be better. U shouldnt alow ur goverment to lend my gov ur money in the 1st place, but they didnt asked u didnt they? they just played with ur future too.

@jjgreek1 If you don't feel contempt for the Greek people, why do you laugh at their current troubles? As far as corruption, i agree most of the goverment and too many people are guilty of this. That being said what about the millons of greeks who are honest and work hard? What about the innocent children? By the way you never answered my question. Are you greek?

Think is that being a balkan country is alone a big problem.We have around Turkey,Alvania,Fyrom all being hostile to us add to that corrupted goverment rich ppl not paying taxes and big wave of Illegal immigrants (enyone comes in Hellas can see that)and the Cyprus problem.The economic problem we have now is the least we face serius i dont know what your countries TV shows promote but economic is a very small problem for us we have learned to live with lots and with basics dont worry.

Ask also why we have 150.000 millitary personell(those that work for army not solgiers that all citizens are)when Germany has 100.000.I recoment you read modern Greek hystory you will understand a lot that is going on here.You will see that the corrupted Greek goverment has played critical role on the hardship of ppl.And also you will see that in 198 years of freedom we have only 34 years of "democracy"(modern democracy btw has nothink to do with our anchestor's)Sry for bad English.

@dimiballas πρώτον, που ξέρεις την ιδεολογική μου τοποθέτηση? Δεύτερον. Η αμερικανική βοήθεια έχει να κάνει με την ποιότητα? Η με το ότι χρειαζόμασταν βοήθεια για να φάμε? Αυτό είναι το πρώτο πράγμα που σου ήρθε στο μυαλό? Μπορεί να μην πέθαιναν αλλά έπεφτε πείνα. Από το '47 και μετά έχω άποψη. Εσύ προφανώς είσαι εντελώς άσχετος ή ήσουν απο τους λίγους που δεν πείνασαν. H Ελλάδα έχει δυνατότητες να παράγει τα πάντα. Όποιος όμως ισχυρίζεται ότι μεταπολεμικά δεν της έλειπε τίποτα, είναι γελοίος.

Arvanites come from Dories not illyrians. They could understand albanian but that doesn't mean that they were albanians . That show that they live a lot of years with them . Even the Albanians authorities recognize that Arvanites are greeks. Do you know when? When the the albanian goverment admit that there is greek minotiry at the South of Albania . Those greeks are Arvanites. So , albanians recognize that Arvanites are greeks. Also, at 1821 Albanians were alloes with Turks and they fought against greeks. There are manuscripts about that . Even the Turks admit that they were allies with Albanians. The Albanian propaganda should stop

Foustanella contains 400 pietes which sympolize 400 years of Turkish occupation . Albanias were allies with Turks and according with research they had the same clothes with them. Also, foustanella has greek letters on it to show the origin and the religion . Furthermore , according to historians foustanella is the evolution of ancient greek mandias.Greeks wear foustanella a lot before 1821 P.S. King Otti said that he is going ti wear Foustanella in order to show his respect to the Greeks ,as foustanella is a traditional greek costume The Albanian propaganda should stop
