Just putting 2 and 2 together, but most people mention sticker-shock prices when they enter Alaska [everything there has a delivery premium added and so expensive, even by American standard], I didn't see that with you except for when you mentioned $7.50 gas price. I think you're just used to prices fluctuation, having lived in Alaska.

We just watched the price of gas increase as we drove north through multiple states. It’s harder with groceries because it’s not just one item on the receipt (like with gas) it’s lots of items. When we lived in Indonesia, we never bought berries because they were so expensive, but mangoes, kiwis, and dragon fruit were affordable. Things that are expensive in Alaska will be the tropical fruits, plus dates and cashews. We just haven’t been here long enough to know if the sticker shock is Alaska or the U.S. in general 😂 Everything feels expensive - food, activities, gas, etc.
