Nostalgia! My husband, our kids (ages 7-8), and I spent four months in Alaska in winter 2022, exploring every weekend. Those adventures really ignited our love for the outdoors. The kids will never forget those experiences! It's so important to teach adaptability, and you two are doing a fantastic job. Love this channel-you're truly inspiring! Greetings from Georgia!

I think it would be good to put a tarp down first and then set the teepee up on the tarp. I wonder if you could cut tennis balls and put them on the end of poles to raise the tent wall using the tennis ball ends so you could get more space.

Your kids are going to have the same childhood as me. One of my favorite memories is ice fishing. We would also build a fire on the lake (very thick ice so no worries about melting through it) and cook hot dogs and marshmallows while fishing. All while it was -40 degrees out. Good times. Here in the UK, we have a tree called the Mountain Ash which is also called the Rowan. It has bright red clusters of berries and is foraged for use in jams, vinegars, wines, ketchup and all sorts of stuff. You need to pick them after a frost (or take them home and stick them in the freezer) or the berries are really astringent and bitter. Apparently, all the parts of the tree are edible, including the sap, but I have only ever used the berries. I wonder if the European Mountain Ash has any similar ancestry to the North American tree of the same name.

Fun outing. I would add a carbon monoxide detector when using a hot tent. Also a fire extinguisher placed inside the tent as well. With the size of your family a wall tent might work. If you are car camping the weight isn’t as much of an issue.
