It's impressive that all over China a huge investment in infrastructure is apparent. As opposed to the opposite in the US, I hate to admit.

Last month while I was in Hong Kong I travelled to Shenzhen to spend half a day to do two things. One was to get a AI translator that can do over 120 languages. It cost just £40 and can do translation from language A to B and/or reversely. The other was to visit Gangxia North station. This happened just after I spent 25 days touring 10 Chinese cities including Shanghai, Chengdu and Chongqing that has fantastic metro stations of their own. Gangxia North looks out of this world so I decided to see it with my own eye. Gangxia North station is indeed "the" station to see. That is the standard with which one can measure the others. I did spend nearly a full day to tour around the Shanghai metro system as it is the world's biggest. Chengdu is another one with many metro stations of outstanding beauty. To be candid I would say apart from the decorations there isn't much in each of the beautiful metro station in China. Each comprises some platforms where the metro trains pass and stop. Then there is a common hall where the passengers can walk from one line to another line and exit the station. The colorful decoration is just there to make the passengers to feel less stressful. None of the decorations, possibly with the exception of Gangxia, is expensive but each one is an artistic expression of its own, with a theme and can be impactful to new passengers using the line. Gangxia North is structurally designed to make good use of its large dimensions, as it has to house some four lines together, to provide an visually pleasing environment. Each metro line is fully enclosed by glass so the whole station can be kept remarkably clean. The rest is just the attention to details. Chinese metro stations are designed for large number of passengers so relative to the west they are enormous with plenty of space and facilities. My impression of the Chinese metro is that they are newer, more up to date, huge, faster, cleaner and most importantly more affordable. Typical ride is 2 to 4 yuan and that is £0.25 to £0.45 about 1/10 of what passengers in London or New York have to pay. It is noteworthy e-commerce is extensively used in China as I managed to go through every metro station in China with just a mobile phone.

The whole world should be jealous. I seriously doubt there are many train stations anywhere in the world as beautiful as this

Jealousy can propel a person to do better which is good. But if Jealousy makes a person do evil things that is bad. The Hegemonic US is unfortunately in the 2nd category

As an American, we have it even worse than the Brits. I live in NYC and half of our train stations look post apocalyptic. The end result of nearly 80 years of disinvestment.

Our metro stations in Germany (Berlin, Frankfurt, etc.) smell like piss, are crumbling, ugly, unsafe, with many delays and cancellations, have awful complicated pricing systems (dozens of different prices for the same route) and on top of all this, tickets are ridiculously overpriced even for shortest distances. Man I really miss the infrastructure and harmonious vibe of mainland China.

What is so surprising (and shocking) is that it was in Britain (the U.K.) that trains and the railway system was first developed ahead of every other country in the world. One would think that the U.K. should have by now, the most modern, the most advanced trains ahead of anyone else. However, it seems that after making so many developments and advances in technology (firearms, the industrial revolution, shipping, the jet engine, modern medicine, etc, etc) the English sort of fell asleep at the wheel while dreaming of the old days.

Trains and train stations in the uk not only old also not very clean. The worst is they often delay and sometimes cancel. Nightmare if you need to be somewhere punctually.
@TravelinChina20 сағат бұрын
Not all of them. Some are very clean. And some stations are very nice. But yes, there are some old, unclean trains. And some poor stations.

Same in Germany. Also very unfriendly train stuff who wake you up in a rude tone multiple times during one ride to manually check your ticket. Also, if you buy the wrong ticket (there are dozens of ticket types for the same route) you get fined heavily. If it happens several times and you are too poor to pay the fines, you will be jailed (many in jail because of this).

In 1997, Two of my friends and I were travelling in London and were very impressed by the Metro systems in London,we were told that the tube states are less one miles in whole London. At that time, we never dreamed that China can catch up so quickly. It seems that London tube system did not change in the last 30 years.

The station's design is nice, but to tell you the truth, when I'm in China, I really don't feel anything special... It's been a while that for me, nice, clean, modern and well maintained Metro station is a normal thing! 😅 It is when I come back to my home country (France) that I ask myself: "what has happened here during these 20-30 year"? We had high-speed trains (TGV), train under the sea (Eurotunnel), supersonic plane (Concorde) and space rockets (Ariane)... I hope that like for China, every government in the World will strive to work for the improvement of their people's life and not only for the happy fews!
