The little things are brilliant! As someone who's a greenhorn in parenthood, such little things are what I'd love to see to get some tips on travelling with kids for when we bring our little one back to Japan to meet the other side of the family 😊

What shoes are dorian n hudson wearing for their adventures?
@TheBackpackingFamily

We mostly go for crocs sandals and vivobarefoot shoes , still experimenting but these both work pretty well (vivobarefoot have been perfect for travel as they don't take up to much space - as well as all the barefoot advantages 🙌 - increasingly convinced )

Lol I feel like my life is one big awkward moment running around after the kids 🤪😆🥰 I feel like you do have to make the effort to show modesty but they really get and love families so generally don't judge to hard ... I think ...

let me apologize for the negativity right at the start... you guys seem to be having fun and everyone is surviving - so who am I to judge... Yet I allow myself the comment: since your last post spoke alot about authenticity, and this post specifically asks about the appetite for authenticity: Look, I've traveled with toddlers. More ups than downs, good times! But: They are toddlers. There are tantrums. It is difficult to keep them from running into traffic and / or touching foreign peoples' stuff.. I'm sure you know what I am talking about. It's just part of the whole thing. But it's not in your videos. Now, caveat: Maybe your kids just are angels. Maybe it becomes less when the travelling is the rule, not the exception, maybe it's more natural then. But I am still kind of sure there are *some* tantrums. And I get it - your kid is having a tough moment, you're not going to point a camera at their face, right? You're going to be a parent, keep them safe, help if you can, be present... Yet there's not just an absence of tantrums in your videos, but also in what you talk about. You have talked about the difficulties of traveling (eg regarding Brunei), the toll of world / home schooling (eg in the last video), but no mention of just the normal, difficult times that just happen when you are with toddlers... which again: is fine. Viewers show up for quirky adventures and nice scenery shots, not for screaming toddlers, and that is perfectly fine. But it just makes it weird to then talk about authenticity, you know? So.. there you have it, my five cents. Again: Doesn't have to be relevant to you :) I think what you are doing is a net positive for the kids and I wish you all the best! Good luck, enjoy and all the best :) As I said - sorry for the negativity...

So funny that you’ve asked this, our next one on the Dead Sea touches on this a bit. - really tricky to film, so tried to roll with it a bit, getting across our day isn’t all rosey ect - but tbh, as you’ll see its even hard to make it followable on video. I do totally hear what your saying, and love that you’ve brought it up so just a few quick-ish ever evolving thoughts on it (please excuse it being short hand) > it is such a net given that kids get tired/overwhelmed/ get upset we don’t tend to focus on it in videos. >Authenticity is an interesting one, in that we don’t show ever time we go to the bathroom, but we’re not pretending we don’t poop lol - … actually I think in a recent video we were joking about how most of parenting is food in and food out. - yeah, so we often wonder where we draw the line. > not saying they don’t have their moments, but I think you kinda guessed, they are happier and more in a rhythm when travelling and outdoors that the meltdowns are less of a thing than when we try to do domestic life (of course we still have crazy nightmare child- parenting situations) Probably the biggest thing for us, is filming our kids respectfully. We have mentioned it in context in some of our videos over the years, but yeah absolutely, haven’t got the camera out (often put it away quickly) when they’re struggling and need us more. Not because we care about coming across a certain way, but more because our kids come first and if they’re having a hard time, filming doesn’t even factor. - Really appreciate you taking time to message like this - always learning, thinking growing (having my own meltdowns and picking myself back up lol) - so curious, where are you from, how old are your little ones? lovely to meet you on here Emma x
