Another fun video ! I don’t know these towns at all. I missed a lot of places in the country while I lived in Amsterdam for 40 years ! When you are born there you tend to take it for granted. Now I see it with fresh eyes. Thank you Sam !

I know how that goes; there's a lot in California that I've never seen because it was always just home haha. But happy to see you got something from these videos!

Glad to see you in Groningen as well man! A college town since the 1580's and very vibrant as you experienced. It's -to some- the Amsterdam of the north. Hope you do go to Bourtange, a unique completely preserved 17th century fortified town that was never conquered. It's a remnant of the days we had to keep Hoky Roman empire and certain german (warmongering) german bishops from our backs. It still has a tiny school and a synagogue... and functioning cannons. If the gates are closed, it's the safest place in the Netherlands: the original 'gated community' in a way.
@exploringtheforeign2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Eric! I'll definitely come back another time for Bourtange, but it won't be on this trip unfortunately. Sounds like a really interesting place, though.

The aerial footage you show us of the towns is awesome - really gives context of all the walking you're doing. Really appreciate how you're able to get all those people to talk to you and talk about the museum contents and historical sites! These towns look so slow (compared to NJ/NY) and relaxing! Loved the refugee protest excerpt - really cool to see how welcoming people can be in some of these towns!

5:45 The building behind you… I work there on 2nd floor. Too bad I did not notice you filming 😆. Btw watching your videos def worth it. When I was in my 20’s went to Groningen a lot. Some of my friends studied there. Nightlife was great. I remember the cafés De drie gezusters, de blauwe engel and Warhol. Groningen is one big campus. In Arnhem you’ve got De Korenmarkt. Went to a concert in Luxor Live couple of months ago. Also great city. Good thing NL is a small country, right? Enjoy your trip and hope you meet a lot of great people!

Aw man, would've been cool to meet each other! Next time! And thanks for the feedback on the videos, that helps as confirmation to keep going haha. I can see why you had a good time in Groningen in your 20s. I believe I saw that same place "de drie gezusters" in Arnhem. Not sure if it's a chain or something. Thanks for the well wishes!

The good thing about Groningen is that there is very little in a really big circle around it. So all the buzz of a large area gets concentrated there, with far less students in the past it was also very lively. In the weekend the streets with bars you were walking are packed at 3 A.M. .But going out drinking on a tuesday is mostly for students.
@exploringtheforeign2 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! So it's been lively for a while it seems :)

If you come to The Hague, you should really visit the Panorama Mesdag on the Zeestraat next to the Hilton. It's only a small museum, but it has one of the best experiences you could ever have.

Sam😆TMI on needing to get a toothbrush. How was the Airbnb 1? I'm so used to staying at hotels Hilton, etc. I would love to check out the museum. How many floors is the leaning tower?? I know you were happy making it up to the top😂 that deep breath says it all.. 😍 beautiful view though! Airbnb 2, I didn't know there was a hotel style, cool. Definitely get plenty of rest, we need more videos like this 😁 I might just have to go far to get a nice 🍷drink❤️ 😲 I know Isaiah would love college town there! I really enjoyed this video! 💕

Friesland also had women's voting rights in the 1790's. They are always a bit different. But then Napoleon marched in and that was over.
