I travel by taxies every day. In Sofia. How come that you come here for the first time and you are immediately offered drugs, and no one has ever offered me anything. Another remark: "Russian style of writing" - no such thing. The Cyrilic alphabet was developed in Bulgaria, suited to our language by yhe students if Cyril and Methodius. From Bulgaria it was taken to Russia when they turned to Christianity 100 years after Bulgaria.

You're not a tourist. Sometimes people (in every country) try to sell odd things to tourists.

As a Bulgarian, I must issue the following warning: Do not compare us to the Ottomans, unless you want to face serious consequences!

As another Bulgarian, you'd be incredibly misled if you believed any Bulgarian who'd like you to believe that there was not a very great influence of the Ottomans on Bulgaria. Turkish loan words, musical influence, cuisine, etc...like it or not, the influence is there.

@@a2xd94 that was sort of my point. Not trying to undermine the "Bulgarianness" of the country at all.

@@TalesFromTheRoad I didn't mean for my comment to sound so aggressive. I'm very aware of the cultural exchange between us, and that wasn't my point. We still have a lot of people who are prejudiced against the Turks, and they would go out of their way to "punish" anyone who would compare us with them. Also, English may not be spoken in the smaller towns and villages, but it is widely spoken in all big cities and tourist areas.

Thanks for the presentation. In September, I will take a 2-week tour of Bulgaria, for the second time. It;'s a mountainous country with many nice places, so the traject will not overlap the first one, with the exception of Sofia. This time we will not get into Sofia, but do some sightseeing on Mt. Vitosha.

The absence of Schengen on land is not due to a lack of confidence in the EU. On the contrary, the EU has confidence in BG's borders, but one country (Austria) is still opposed.

Thank you for your presentation. I was in Varna two weeks ago. The food is indeed varied and good and considerably cheaper than ours. Bulgaria is a beautiful country. By the way, I had a delicious meal in a restaurant in the port of Varna. The food was great and so was the service. I didn't go there well prepared and I should have had a better look at your presentation first. I ended up here because my girlfriend is from Bulgaria. What's sad is the way people looked at me. I didn't feel welcome there. When I went to get a drink at the Golden Sands Beach bar, I was asked where I came from. I said I'm from the Netherlands. The answer I got: "What the fuck are you doing here? Go to France, Greece or Italy!" I thought: "That is also clear and a good advertisement for your own country!"

People are just honest and they think that Greece is place to go for vacation. That's all. Bulgarians don't appreciate bulgaria. I'd rather have that than get pushed to visit a place that sucks

Thank you. It would be nice if you show the name of each place for people like me who is not familiar with the city’s name so I can quickly google more. it just took me a little while to get the right spelling. Or you can just write the name in your description below the vdo.

@@StamfordBridge the saints Cyril and Methodius invented the Glagolic alphabet in Great Moravia, and after that their disciples were chased off from that country, and ended up in Bulgaria.. They were the ones who invented the Cyrillic alphabet in Bulgaria, in the late 9th century, and it was invented particularly to fit the needs of spoken Bulgarian, at the time, in order to fend off Greek (Byzantine) influence. The alphabet was named after St. Cyril in his honor but the real inventors were students of Cyril and Methodius, and like I wrote, this happened in Bulgaria. Therefore we consider it Bulgarian alphabet that was later spread to other Slavic peoples like Serbs, Russians, etc.
