Lmao i have a very similar story, but instead of a palestinian friend i had egyptian roommates.... took 90minutes for them to let me through, and an El Al employee had to follow me all the way to my airplane seat! They did the whole thing where they put me in a private room for a search/patdown, and after one of the airline employees put on plastic gloves -GOD that the italian police officer that was tehre with us stopped her, no taking clothes off for me. Everything else was completely identical. I tried to buy a bottle of water, the guy took it out of my hand, put it back, gave me a different one. My actual time in israel was lovely. Spoke to many arabs and israelis, everyone was lovely. I will admit however, i did not speak to a single ultra-orthodox person. Getting weed delivered to the beach by a middle aged man on a scooter was great too

The modern Palestinian people were just the people left in that territory who were originally Jewish and then converted to Christianity under the roman empire and then converted to Islam under the Umayyad caliphate. It is far more likely that the Palestinians are more closely related to the original Israelite's than the Ashkenazi Jews.
