In 1988 five legends spanning multiple decades and music genres came together to form a supergroup. They brought a sense of humor to music at a time when some musicians were taking themselves a bit too seriously. The band forbade technology in their recordings. They called themselves the 'Traveling Wilburys'.

Best Group of Accomplished Musicians who came together, at the right time and the right place. All phenomenal. What a great way for Roy to head into his next journey! Then George, and next Tom, which sets mortality as a reality for those of us who knew them when. I had End of the Line played at my husband's funeral, at the end! Of this life only and on to the next.

Even the name of the band is a joke, a play on a phrase used in the studio when an artist or producer or engineer doesn’t want a cough or a burp or a dropped harmonica to ruin an otherwise good take: “We’ll bury it in the mix.”

Definately Bigger than The Beatles. I was happy for George, that he found equality With The Wilbury Gang. Totaly blessed with the line up Roy, Jeff, Bob, and Tom.a great pity they never played Live.

Tom Petty was signed to Shelter Records ( Founded by Leon Russell ) & when the label folded much to his dismay the distributor MCA became the holder of his contract. He wanted to be a free agent & sign a new more lucrative contract.

I I discussed an idea with Roger McGuinn that he should join the Wilburys and take on the role of George Harrison on the 12th string; Chris Isaak could do the Roy Orbison parts since he’s got the same kind of voice Bob Seger could do the Tom Petty vocals. The surviving members of the original set would be Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne.

Good music, but I have to ignore some dark history in order to enjoy it - e.g. the image of Petty punching a hole in a wall (and fracturing his wrist); Harrison verbally trashing most of Paul McCartney's later work; Dylan's frequent, casual cruelties to Phil Ochs. On the other hand, I've known folks who worked with Orbison and Dylan, and who had only good things to say about them as co-performers.
