I greatly enjoyed this long video although I had to take a 6 hour respite in the middle of the video to take my Sunday nap and do some house chores. You really peaked my interest when you said Moab 😃. It seems that your new 4x4 full size pick up is giving you the confidence to be more adventurous; kudos to that.

Robert, you need to check your map. After Chattanooga, you never dip back into Georgia. I agree with you on Monteagle. It is never as scary as it was with a 2 lane and all the runaway truck lanes. I always held my breath crossing it. Now it is just another interstate.

Absolutely stunning, almost sensory overload, and I split it into 2 parts. I'd need a much bigger bottle of oxygen. Have you ever stopped at the east bound rest stop at Lake Nick.? No welcome center, but equally stunning views and they're right out the restroom doors on a concrete deck overlooking the river.

Interesting video. I was there in Rocky Mountain NP just three months earlier around Memorial Day weekend and the road through the park just opened on the Friday leading into the extended weekend. Long story short a huge snow storm blew through Colorado about a week before I arrived in Denver and the snow banks alongst the road where about over six feet in height!! So unfortunately I wasn't able to do any hiking when I arrived at the park. It's surprising but not unusual to see so much snow up in the mountains even towards the end of May.

I love your sense of adventure and solo boondocking is right up my alley. Being a woman, older, doesn't bother me, but I am looking into getting Starlink for my cross-country trip. Just for places such as that, I guess. I do have an InReach, which I used for backpacking, and it could serve the purpose for emergencies.

Watching that rainy drive up into the Rockies reminds me of a trip on I-70 that started with rain, turned to hail, then sleet and finally snow right after I got over the summit. Not fun at all! Your wildlife sighting at 35:14--as Jeff Lebowski would say, "Nice marmot, man" 🙂 I like the drive through Glenwood Canyon, it is so scenic. Plus there's a really nice bike path that runs along the river east from Glenwood Springs. I bet it would make for a fun e-bike ride (with a dip in the big hot springs pool afterwards). Happy trails!

Could you hear me hollering? "Robert, stop watching the camera, watch the road!!" as you drove up that eroding dirt road... that had NO guard rails! LOL. From BadLands to the Rockies, and all the trails in-between... and then to that secluded campsite (I breathed a sign of relief when you drove off toward civilization). So much fun traveling with you. Thank you for taking us with you.

Robert, you had better get back to hanging lake before you become much older. As I remember, it is over a 900 foot climb and is like climbing stairs most of the way, very vertical. I notice you have a tonneau cover on your truck. What brand is it and would you recommend it over others? What is the best brand of cover? Is a soft or hard cover preferable?

Robert, I will agree that is an amazing piece of scenic highway on I-70 East but for the most scenic road in America that award goes to, Going To The Sun Road! I know, we will have to agree to disagree on this one, ha!
@TravelingRobert
@TravelingRobert Жыл бұрын
I've done going to the sun too and i agree, but I was thinking more in terms of a regular road people take to get somewhere. Going to the Sun is a scenic drive and nowadays you even have to make a reservation.
@thehighlanders607
@thehighlanders607 Жыл бұрын
@@TravelingRobert Oh yeah, for sure, as a regular road, it would be hard to top it. Yes the reservation system for the summer months is a drag, especially when you consider that the money for the reserve system goes to a private company, not back to the parks.

A quick note - back in the mid 80s, my wife and I drove north/west on 24. The railroad bridge you showed (just after the short period back in Georgia) gave us a special treat - a steam engine pulling a long string of coal cars. I'll (hopefully) will always remember that. We also went through Rocky Mountain National Park back in the late 80s. Many of the sights have changed (trees larger or died off), and we stopped for lunch at the alpine lodge. Thanks for helping to refresh the memories!

We definitely crossed paths a few times last summer. We live in Wyoming and made the trip to Florida. We followed much the same path from outside Saint Louis to Orlando. We stayed at a really nice KOA at Chattanooga/Lookout Mountain. We were headed the opposite direction so we went down Monteagle Pass/Hill. We drive a Ford Expedition pulling a rig a bit heavier than yours. We definitely used a lot of engine compression going down grade. In our way back we crossed western Kansas and eastern Colorado not far off from when you did. Glad you enjoyed RMNP! It is an old stomping ground with nostalgia attached. We last did Trailridge Summit in 2020.

Your comment about ticks put in my mind that I need to warn you about Lyme disease. I live in the desert...not too many ticks....I spent 1 week in Wisconsin...in a lot that we boondocked on in a city. No contact with nature except for 20 minutes at a dog park......I noticed a rash across my belly. Symptoms of serious brain fog, extremely painful fingers and joints....begged Dr to test for Lyme. Only cuz of the bulls eye rash. I never never saw a tick. The dogs didn't get them either. I never saw mine....but the ticks can be as small as a grain of salt. Please please be careful. PS. I got antibiotics just in time. If I hadn't been insistent, I would be suffering debilating symptoms yet today.

I enjoyed my time there in 1992, 31 years ago. We climbed the flat topped mountain seen at 51:17, 14,255ft Longs Peak. The trail comes up the other side and crosses over to the steep wall you see. I only made it to that point (over 13,000ft) but my brother in-law summited.

Love your show, Robert. Have something to say to you though...your lack of breath while climbing (and/or) hiking is troublesome., as it happens on flat ground as much as in higher elevations (which that would be expected), but I noticed you huff an puff a lot...so, I would suggest you get an ultrasound of your heart before too long. ...better safe than sorry...get that respiratory distress looked at.
