Chimney Rock is beautiful and used to offer an amazing Clifftops Trail Hike that was literally along the highest clifftop and took you to the top of Hickory Nut Falls. Unfortunately, it has been closed. We love to hike Chimney Rock in the winter when it snows. It's even more beautiful! Thank you for the wonderful videos. I always enjoy your travel, music and commentary!

Hi Robert! You made it to Chimney Rock, NC.! That was a great video. One of your best! Awesome views! We did not do the trails as my sister has COPD and gets out of breath easily. I would have loved to get up there but I am not sure I could have made it either at age 85. Had ice cream at the gem mining place on the river. Yum! On the deck overlooking the rocky river. At Lake Lure we walked across the bridge of flowers. Lovely! Then took the boat tour on the lake which cost $13 and was well worth it. Very relaxing and the pilot is a good narrator. Exploring the rocks on the river running right behind the shops in the village is a must do. Dinner at the restaurant on Rte 9 overlooking the lake with great food! Yes you will have to come back again to Chimney Rock. One of the most amazing places in North Carolina.

Yes, I have to go back and do all that. I will stay at the campground next time. It seems like there is so much to do in that area

Were there any restrictions because of COVID-19? BF and I are interested in going but are concerned about too close of proximity to other people
@methings2874 жыл бұрын
@@danielw.7705 Yes, but only a few. Only one person at a time in the information center. No trolley service to the upper parking lot. That upper parking lot would make the hike less strenuous for the elderly or if someone is taking kids. Everything else was open. Enjoy.

I was there last week. The Exclamation Trail is now open. If you're not in that good of shape like I am at the moment I would take the elevator to Chimney Rock. Then from there hike the Exclamation Point Trail. On the way back down don't take the elevator so you didn't miss anything hiking back to the gift shop.

Very beautiful park and you tell a fantastic story. The best park video I have seen. We live in Shelby, NC, about an hour drive down, towards Charlotte. We camped the a couple times a year when we had our camper, and by tent also. The shop at the level of the rock caught fire a while, that’s the renovation reason. There is an elevator carved inside the solid rock, that goes from the lower lot up to and exits inside the shop at the top. Even if you don’t need it, ride it because it’s a marvel on its own. Again, loved the video and narrative. Hope you make it back.

Fun fact, SCCA used to have a race called the Chimney Rock Hill Climb. I pit crewed for a guy who ran in in the early 90's which was one of the last races to be held. The race ran from 1956 to 1995 I think, and there has been some talk in bringing it back but I think the lawyers and Insurance carriers think different. The start line was at the meadows and ran all the way to the top where the parking is for the entrance to "the rock". It was a timed event so there was no "wheel to wheel racing, just solo time trials....different classes of cars competed for the best time in their class. Imagine doing that drive at speed! Drivers would run off and stop on top of the trees below...if they were lucky. Obviously they do not do that anymore.... I think there are videos on YT if you are curious....

Hi Robert, wanted to say I adore your videos and your calming narrating. Especially loved the Chimney Rock video as I’m a native NC girl. But wanted to tell you that the end credits have it listed as Chimney Rock, SC. Could you let people know that it’s in the beautiful NORTH Carolina mountains not the South Carolina ones, 😂. A bit of rivalry exists between the states lol. Thanks brother.

Revisiting Your Video to see Chimney Rock as it was before the Devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The Village is Severely Damaged and all the Businesses past the Old Rock Cafe were completely washed away. The Mayor vows They will rebuild and that Process has already begun. They are already working on Rebuilding the Road into Chimney Rock that was washed away.

There is Hickory Nut Gorge Campground which is about a mile or 2 northwest from the Entrance to Chimney Rock Campground. Didn't stay there but spoke with the owner who was really nice. There are camp sites on the river that looked really nice but they are kind of close to each other and rather small. If you booked the sites on the river either choose the sites at either end or reserve 2 sites right next to each other. Didn't really check out the other camping sites away from the Broad River.
