@mauriciogago44655 жыл бұрын
@@TheMegaMatt I agree, Manuel Antonio is my favorite place in Costa Rica! And public transport in Costa Rica is ok, in the sense that you can travel safely, cheaply and more or less comfortably almost everywhere, especially if you take the bus from a bus station, but if you want to wait for a bus at a bus stop somewhere, then you can still do it, the problem is that normally there's no reliable way to know when the buses are coming, so you just have to wait, and this can of course be frustrating. I live in Germany now and I know how nice it is to be able to rely on public transport (and in Switzerland it's even better).

Hey, I go to Switzerland every summer( Zurich, Klusplatz) and to Costa Rica for the Winters. Live in the US. My two favorite countries are Costa Rica and Switzerland, both are so beautiful, yet, I think Costa Rica is a better destination, because there is so much more to see and do, plus CH is pretty expensive! What says you??
@TheMegaMatt4 жыл бұрын
Well I live in Switzerland and love it! It's a huge privilege to live here. But you are right, it's a very expensive country, it's landlocked (no ocean), very different climate and wildlife. I loved everything I saw in Costa Rica, but I just got a sneak peek as a tourist, only doing the cool stuff. Both beautiful countries, but very different! I wouldn't rate one above the other.
@hugoguggenheim58564 жыл бұрын
@@TheMegaMatt Well, I was not comparing each country. My point was just that as you said, in Switzerland , there are beautiful scenes, ancient towns, views to die for, but, other than perhaps skiing in the winter and hiking in the summers, what other free stuff is there to do? Whereas in Costa Rica you still have no clue as to what you can see and do. Where in Switzerland do you live? As I mentioned earlier, I go to Zurich, I have been to every town in Switzerland, just got a speeding ticket in St Gallen, last August!! hahaha

I am volunteering at the Costa Rica animal rescue centre, I was planning on taking a week to travel around the country. The green water tour looks amazing and so do the national parks. I was wondering if you could tell me where I should go and how to get there (I don’t have a car). Thank you!
@TheMegaMatt6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lilli, the animal rescue center is not too far from San José. There are several Tour Operators organizing 2 or 3 day trips to Tortuguero National Park from San José, they will pick you up at a location in San José. Tell them in advance to drop you of at a public bus stop going to Puerto Viejo on the way back, instead of taking you back to San José. Just google “Tortuguero National Park Tours San Jose” and pick the Tour Operator according to your preferences. You can easily find accommodation around Puerto Viejo on AirBnB.com or Booking.com. If you prefer a quite retreat over vibrant nightlife, than Punta Uva is a good choice. Otherwise Puerto Viejo offers anything you need. The Green Water SUP Tours as well as the Jaguar Rescue Center are both in cycling distance and bikes can be rented at multiple locations. The Cahuita National Park can be reached with the public bus, it might be, that tours are also being organized from Puerto Viejo, not sure though. Getting back to San José is also possible by Public Transport, I’m sure your host or Hotel will help you with the organization. Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

My wife and I rented a car, when we went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon, a few years ago. We drove all over the country. Cahuita/Playa Negra was my favorite! Out of curiosity, what'd you do with your rental car while you were in Tortuguero? We're planning on going back next year and are going to rent a car again, but we'd love to make Tortuguero work also.
@TheMegaMatt5 жыл бұрын
That actually was a bit of a hassle. We returned our car in San José before we left to Tortuguero with a tour operator (organized transport, accommodation and safari). After our trip to Tortuguero we rented another car in Puerto Viejo. Maybe it would have been cheaper to rent a car over the entire period and leave it somewhere close to Tortuguero. But anyway, the car renting was both times very simple and not expensive at all.
@wilsonmoreno5200 Жыл бұрын
Depending on how long you will stay in Tortuguero, there is a parking lot just exactly where you take the boat. There is also a restaurant beside the river and the parking lot.

great video! do you recommend exchanging $$ ahead of time or right there? also would you recommend buying tour packages ahead of time or wait till i get there? if so where? thanks so much
@TheMegaMatt6 жыл бұрын
Usually you get the best rate when you withdraw money from a local ATM with a Debit Card and if not possible with a Credit Card. Depending where you come from the exchange rate for Colones of your bank at home might be very bad. But you will get a good exchange rate for USD. So I would advice you to take some USD with you as a backup and then withdraw money locally. The exchange rates of money changers are always bad. We arranged the package with the first Hotel we stayed at. We sent them a message ahead, just to be sure, since we didn't have a lot of time. But I think most of the hotels would arrange these trips for you on the spot. Not sure though... maybe there are some answers on tripadvisor.

Hi Christian, the names of the places we visited are displayed in the video. Just type them into google maps and you will know the driving distance and time needed. Trips to Tortuguero are organized from San José including transport. So I would start or end the trip with this activity. There is no need for a car during that time. For the rest we enjoyed the flexibility of having a rental car, especially if your time is limited. Navigation worked perfectly with the offline maps from google. It works without roaming, so you don't have any extra costs. Hope, that helps, enjoy your trip!

Hi Sabrina, Trips to Tortuguero are organized from San José including transport (in our case minibus). So I would start or end the trip with this activity. We started our trip with Tortuguero. But instead of driving back to San José we asked the Tour Operator to drop us off at a bus station, where the next bus took us to Puerto Viejo. Then we rented a car directly in Puerto Viejo. I think we booked the car over www.economycarrentals.com/ It's one of the cheapest ways to book a car, but you won't know your provider until you have made the booking. If you prefer a certain rental company i suggest you google them for the respective destination. We enjoyed the flexibility of having a rental car, especially if your time is limited. Navigation worked perfectly with the offline maps from google. It works without roaming, so you don't have any extra costs. Hope, that helps, enjoy your trip!

@TheMegaMatt5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The Close-Ups with a nice bokeh were made with the Sony a6300 and the Sony E 50mm f/1.8 lense. It is my favourite travel camera, small and powerful. But you have to be close to the object. The Humming-Birds for example actually landed on our fingers! The zoomed-in Close-Ups from most animals are made with the Sony FDR-AX53. It's a handycam, which most filmmakers would put of as unprofessional. But it has a powerful zoom (20x) without the need of changing the lense. It's my favourite Safari-Cam, because I'm ready for the shot in just a few seconds and it enabled me to get shots, which I otherwise would have missed. In lowlight conditions this camera performs very poor. The rest of the shots are made with the GoPro, sometimes IPhone, and the Drone was a Mavic Pro.

@TheMegaMatt6 жыл бұрын
After Monteverde we returned our rental car in San José. Our trip to Tortuguero was with Jungle Tom Safaris and included the pickup from San José. They offer 2- or 3-day packages. Here is their website: www.jungletomsafaris.com/packages/ We were absolutely happy with our tour and our guide Kevin was awesome. There are many different providers organizing trips directly from San José. If you want to be sure to get the right one for you, check the reviews on Tripadvisor: www.tripadvisor.ch/Attraction_Review-g309268-d302451-Reviews-Tortuguero_National_Park-Tortuguero_Province_of_Limon.html After our trip to Tortuguero we requested to get dropped off at the bus station in direction Puerto Viejo, where we got another rental car for the remaining days of our stay. Maybe not the easiest way, but it worked fine for us. I hope this helps 😃

How was rental car with mandatory insurance ?
@TheMegaMatt6 жыл бұрын
We always only take the most basic insurance and nothing on top. But that's because we are covered with all the insurances we have in Switzerland. In my case it does not pay off to take any extras on top.

how was the rental car? we wanted to book but we see 5$ a day. is this true? can i have your feedback, thanks!
@TheMegaMatt6 жыл бұрын
We had a car from easycar. It was the following type: "SUV 4WD, Suzuki Grand Vitara or similar" and it cost us around USD 200.- for 7 days. Rental Car prices can have extrem variations depending on the season. We also onece had a car for around USD 5.-/day in other countries. It can happen during low season. However we were very happy with our rental car provider. Super easy, no stupid discussions and not trying to talk us in an upgrade. We always book over www.economycarrentals.com/ which usually gives you the best rates possible. On the other hand you don't know which provider you will get in advance. Anyway, never had a bad experience with this onlineplatform. Maybe you can doublecheck the prices with it. I would recommend getting a 4WD. We used the offlinemaps of google for navigation and had no problems at all finding our places. Hope this helps.

Which dorone are you useing?
@TheMegaMatt6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jurij Cigale, in this Video I used the DJI Mavic Pro. I just got it befor the trip, hence was still experimenting with the settings. Some footage turned out well, other footage not so well. Meanwhile I have figured out my favourite settings and am super happy with this drone. I also use the Phantom 4 Pro at home, but for travelling, the Mavic is my first choice.

Yes, you are right! But I'm glad people are clever enough to realize that mistake I made ;-)

Tortuguero was the worst part of our 10 days in Costa Rica. I got food poisoning and there's no hospital for three hours, by boat. I didn't drink the water, but did eat salad and I'm pretty sure that's where the mistake was made. My wife ate only cooked food and she had no problems. Where we stayed in Toruguero, there was no hot water, no air conditioning and the place smelled like sewage. I'll never go there again. Other parts of Costa Rica were very nice...

Its a good video, but you missed a lot of places. As a tourist you also do not want to see the dark side of the country, drugs addict, prostitution, and how poor people survive there. When you say Rica, you have to make a double R sound. Try to read RRica, like when you say ride in english, republic, rest. Thank you

Thanks! I'm sure I missed a lot of places. 2 weeks is not enough to see an entire country! I will practice my pronounciation for next time 😜
