Travels with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm

Random selection of clips I put together whilst editing a DVD of my camcorder tapes from over the years. I decided not to use these in the DVD, but thought they were too good not to use, so I put this together.
Featured are various aircraft from Great Britain, France, and India filmed during various exercises globally, including an extremely rare encounter between FRS1 Sea Harriers, and Royal Navy GR9 harriers.

I spent 10 years on the harrier circuit on all 3 SHAR squadrons but back in the 80's, we didn't have video recording. It's great to see the flight deck again and relive the daily activities, brings back to life the old memories. Thanks a lot for posting this.

You guys need about 100 of the FA3 model to fill the spaces on those 2 new carriers. A carrier wing of 12 F35B and 50 FA3 is a force to be reckoned with as opposed to just having 12 f35

Can someone help to explain what is carried on the 2 outer pylons? They look like rocket pods but RN Harriers are for fleet defense so CAS with rockets are not their role. The 2 inner pylons are clearly the auxiliary fuel tanks. The Forward Centre pylon looks like a 500 pound bomb. Is that right?

Hi Estelle, they are Carrier Bomb Light Stores (CBLS) used for carrying light weight practice bombs. The bombs emit a puff of smoke for accuracy marking purposes and are seen here being dropped on the splash target being towed behind the ship.

...and further to the highly accurate response (thanks, by the way!), different shape and weight practice bombs were carried to simulate the release behaviour of different full sized weapons.
