The taste of sea cucumbers has a unique texture and flavor of the sea. It's fantastic to eat sushi with sauce. Of course, people who haven't had much sushi won't understand. I used to be like that when I was a kid. That sticky liquid prevents constipation and stomach cancer. In Japan and Korea, people gather the entrails of sea cucumbers and cook them separately. It's very delicious and expensive. Qin Shi Huang, the emperor of China, ate sea cucumbers for his eternal life. In Korea, Japan, and China, sea cucumbers are called three great ingredients. It used to be a very precious food ingredient.

I bet this is really tasty! In Catalonia and Spain we cook a wide range of "strange" seafood which is delicious, starting from a type of white sea cucumber (espardenyes), to sea urchins, snails, anemones, barnacles and fish tripes. I get that some people might be disgusted but this is just a matter of being open-minded and respectful for other cultures. You can learn a lot from other cultures through traditional cuisine and I think is worth to try something to develop a real opinion about it. Otherwise, it's just prejudice
@hillarycrosson58276 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say prejudice. I think it's a matter of what you're used to. Several years back, I wouldn't have touched this because it would have been visually disgusting and completely foreign to my palate. I grew up hearing people could get sick from uncooked meat. Now that I've experimented some with unusual foods I still feel it looks disgusting, but I'd try it.

It's based on a series of starvation and over-population :D Much like the weird cuisine of Norway, where they were forced to use/eat literally all of every single animal. If it could be eaten in any form, they found a way, if not... use it in some way that involves food, or in getting more food. When starvation kicks in, we'll try anything... ANYTHING. Why do you think the chinese originally ate cats/dogs at all? Starvation. (it is banned nowadays though) or eating maggots or tarantulas for example, starvation makes us look at things we normally would avoid, as life-saving edible foods. And unfortunately, if our father's father's father's father's father ate it, then we will too. Thus, weird cuisine is born, passed down from poverty-stricken families.

I wouldn't mind trying out sea cucumber. However ,I wonder if at their current rate of consumption by humans if they will become extinct in the not too distant future. The sea cucumber tastes good, low in fat and high in protein. But in fact, the nutritional value of sea cucumber is not high, but the price in Asia is extremely high. The reason is that traditional medicine led by China mistakenly believes that sea cucumber can make people immortal. So, when you come to Asia, be sure to taste it once. But as food, sea cucumber is not as nutritious as eggs and milk.
