That trip looks like a lot of fun. The holiday cruises are a little out of our budget. We did see the HAL gingerbread village being constructed last Christmas but the chefs involved would not let my DW film them while they were under construction. That was a great video.

@@TravelTouristVideos HAL has a new "stand by" fare where you can get a cabin of their choice for $50 pp. It has been on a couple of the "cruise news" sites. I went to look at what was available and it included cruises out of San Diego and Fort Lauderdale. If we add in our AARP and shareholder discounts, that could amount to some inexpensive cruises. (After the January cruise on the Eurodam, we are on the shelf for several months so we cannot take advantage of these.)

Joann’s comments @2:57 about the Bolognese are definitely consistent with what she said about the very same dish on another Celebrity cruise you guys took. I remember commenting on how sad I was to hear the Bolognese was so salty, because the color is so deep and rich. I would have thought the sauce would have a nice *rich* flavor, and I’m sad to hear that they have not changed the recipe. I love a good Bolognese! The shellfish soup sounded delightful. I know I would have enjoyed that tremendously, along with that perfect prime rib! Duck á l’Orange is magic. I know I would love that. The bourbon pecan bread pudding sounds and looks very compelling! I know I would have enjoyed that. There is so many tempting options on the first menu, I know I would over-indulge. I saw beef Wellington on the second menu. That would be a MUST. That, along with the pear & honey soup? To die for! Would have to take a crack at the seared salmon as well. Chicken liver pâté would be so lovely in my mouth. Does Celebrity allow you to select multiple entrees? Love me some rack of lamb too. Just give me one of everything 😂. I would really have to pace myself. That slow roasted turkey looked absolutely fabulous. Sad to hear the bouillabaisse was just “okay,” but that wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me. Probably would pass on the petite fours, but the crème brûlée would go down perfectly 👌. I would pass on the apple pie (too common), but it still looks good, especially with that rum ice cream. This was another treat! Thanks for being the guinea pigs, you guys!!! ~Scott

Thanks Scott! 😊 It sounds like you really enjoyed most of the dishes, especially the shellfish soup, prime rib, and duck à l'Orange. We totally agree, those were some of the highlights for us as well. The bourbon pecan bread pudding and beef Wellington both sound like must-tries for next time! Celebrity did a very good job for sure with this menu, and yup you can certainly order multiple apps, entrees and desserts no problem. Thanks again for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Thank you! 😊 We really enjoy the festive atmosphere- the decor and some of the food & entertainment are Christmas-themed. For the kids they have special activities too. So a lot of fun for sure!

This may be an unfair advantage question. I've now seen your review of the Holland America fares (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and I'm curious as to how HA compares with Celebrity regarding the quality and variability in their menus. The unfairness of comparison comment relates to the the Christmas menus just reviewed. Celebrity may be going the extra mile for the holidays. But overall, how does the Celebrity menu and quality compare with HA?

In the past year, I have been on the Celebrity Millennium and the HAL Konigsdam. I think that the menus between the two lines is fairly similar and those of us who enjoy fine dining would not be disappointed. HAL does get an edge in breakfast menus as they offer international offerings that I have not seen elsewhere. I think that Celebrity would get a slight nod on having better service in the MDR. I would have no problem recommending either. By the way, this channel features a lot of videos on their Celebrity cruises.

Good question! They're both very good. A few advantages Celebrity does have in the MDR in that they still have lobster night, and the still have crème brûlée nightly. HAL's buffet vs Celebrity's Edge-class ship buffet is awash, though much better vs Celebrity's older ships'. It's subjective though of course, and you can checkout our videos from both lines and let us know which one you'd like better!
