We leave our first aire in Santander and head for our second stop which is Area del Lago Acebo. A very peaceful aire next to a lake with just two other vans here...UNTIL 5 hours later when 65 MORE motorhomes turn up and it turns into a party! Yes it's a Spanish holiday and all family are making the most of it. We check out the village for food, see some elephants and make friends with a dog, attempt to try some free food before calling it a night.

Spanish olives are world-renowned and pickled in salt they are a tangy complement to cold beer I often have some with pate and a cracker at the end of the day, I think one of the exciting things about traveling to foreign parts is sampling the local cuisine, enjoy the strange food with an open mind you might be surprised hope you have a great holiday

The shop where you couldn’t see any food had a big sign saying Boccadillios, Hamburger, etc. Boccadillios is Spanish for sandwiches, so look out for that. The free food was Tapas, the more drinks you buy, the better the quality of tapas provided. You get a small plate with every drink.

If you had walked further along the tarmac into the aire, when we visited there was a gap in the hedge and the elephants were visible across the field. We only passed through on our way home so didn't investigate the village. A normal black coffee is "Americano". A white coffee is "Cafe con Leche". Two lagers are "Dos Cervezas". That concludes my crash course in Spanish!

Hello,Dan and Mazzy. You know that you will find plenty of empty vast aires like this one in the country. Everyone is packed in the same touristical places. We used to love the peace and quiet. By the way,you say :’’ adios or hasta luego ‘.to say goodbye . To say hello, it is ‘’hola’’but you also hear ‘’ buenos dias ‘’ in the morning and ‘’buenas noches ‘’ in the evening, very often simply reduced to ‘’buenos and buenas’’ You are so right to do what you are doing,discovering new countries. I am glad I did with my husband. Have the most enjoyable stay.

As a Three employee, I can confirm roaming with Three on pay monthly plans signed for prior to October 2021 include roaming at no extra cost, whilst it is indeed £2 per day for newer plans (EU) and £5 a pay for other Go Roam destinations . I turned 77 yesterday Mazzy... Happy birthday to you... I went to dinner with a friend and his French Girlfriend.. Her family lives near where you two are on the French side of the border... she has a hand held device that she uses to translate what she says into english.. It can translate from english to just about every language you can imagine.. To bad you don't have one of those.. They could speak into it.. and it will instantly give you a text and voice translation of what they said and vice versa... to them from you.. It's amazing..

Mercadona, al Campo, plenty of Lidl’s, some Aldi. Tortilla is an omelette. Dan we brought everything over, don’t worry so much. Different regions have different ideas on charging for tapas. In a lot of bars you just get crisps or olives or nuts but in Andalusia tapas are amazing.

Yes tapas you can pick what you want aswell . Your in the bar and you’ll see a glass hot plate up always at the counter. You pick your tapas there . But that’s also tapas that you got in them 2 bars. You can go back in that bar and pick what you want . Just say tapas they understand tapas .

We travelled from Portsmouth to santander on motorbikes, through northern Spain staying at Ribadesella, Ribadeo,plus a few more stops to Northern Portugal, Poa Varzim.beautiful coastal and mountain stays.we did learn some Spanish before but difficult to use in conversation but they appreciate you trying. We had to use Google translate quite a few times to communicate. We were away for 3 weeks...returned from Bilboa (where we had a 3 night stay at fabulous Castro Urdiales, 10 minutes fro the ferry port) back to Portsmouth. Loved every second.Enjoy the Spanish hospitality, enjoy your adventure x

Hiya both! Use your phone to translate. There’s an app where you can speak into it and it will translate and vice versa. They do give you bits of tapas with drinks , like we have peanuts at a bar! Shame you don’t like olives …… you will get them given often with a drink. Supermarkets will have room for you to park. Look at a few bloggers on here, they have lots of tips. Look at a menu and find the translation online. Find a supermarket and stock up on what you like if the food isn’t for you. Don’t want you going hungry 👍👍😄😄😄

Suggestion is heading to Seville and the Aires opposite Aldi, then El Rochio at a weekend. Most Aldi and Lidlls have motorhome parking.

Please back into your spot each night before bed that way you can get away quickly if bad people threaten you. Keep keys at the ready. I suggest a backpack with your important things kept with you, there's a lot of tourist vehicle break-ins in Spain. I really want to go now, so pretty there.

Been to Spain for over 10 years in the Motorhome never had any problems. No different to anywhere else tbh. Park up in sensible places and in big cities stay in proper campsites.

Usually plenty of room in car parks for Motorhomes etv. Mas Y Mas (more and more in Spanish) is a good supermarket, we tend to use these as they seem to be the most prevelant when your out and about, Enjoy the 90 days.

Be cautious with what you think are freebies in Spanish amd Portuguese restaurants. Some put out olives, bread,etc can become a cost on your final bill. I learned this the hard way. Enjoying videos hope you both have a fantastic time!
