The name KATMANDU , during British Raj. They tried to explain Nepalis to cut the wood. So it was like CUT- MAN- DO. That is Man cut the wood.

No bro.. In Nepali Kath= wood mandu = lots of. In Kathmandu there are lots of temples made from wood,so they name the place Kathmandu. It is said that in Kathmandu Durbar square there is one temple called Kathmandu Temple which is said to be made from only one wood. So they named the place Kathmandu
