Rites is a company under Indian Railways ( Ministry of Railway ). They have a division where all the locomotives, coaches, wagons of Indian Railways are handled by this Division. That's way Rites is written in the coach of Sri lankan Railway.

Nice vlog of train journey between Anuradhapura & Colombo. The train seems to be a fairly new one. The tracks are not maintained properly and the signaling system is still the old, manual system that used to exist in India 30 or 40 years ago but the fantastic scenery more than makes up for all that.

Rail system is drowning in debt. Unless a comprehensive rail line infrastructure expansion like Switzerland which Sri Lanka doesn’t have the money to fund nor Sri Lankan’s have the money to maintain, the rail line will continue to deteriorate. Thats said the route are beautiful.

Sri Lankan government brought 10 M11 engines from india...but now only 2 engines are using for service (because very poor quality of engine) but S13 and S13A 🔥🔥

The engine was not of poor quality, your tracks were of poor quality. The engine was too long and unsuitable for tracks in sri lanka, also the power of the engine was much larger than required. Locomotive had air compressor brake, while your carriages had vaccum brake, so it could not be used with most carriages.

@@prateeksharma729 SLR imported 160 ICF coaches with air breaks from India. The first trial with M11+ICF failed due to power failure in the ICF carriages beyond notch 5. The reason was that the Auxiliary generator capacity in M11 wasn't sufficient enough to power the ICF coaches. But the ICF coaches next trial was with 1975 imported Canadian Giant class M4 locomotive which was successful. The M4 Auxiliary generator capacity was enough to power ICF coaches. M11 was not designed as per SLR specifications. Due to Covid lockdown SLR Engineers could not visit for inspection. M11 is a white elephant with so many derailments & Failures.
