When I went to Bhutan in 1998 from Kolkata there was no restriction on using Bhutan public buses. I went by Bhutan Government bus from Siliguri to Jalgaon.

I visited bhutan from Bengaluru in 2020 just before lockdown was announced in Bhutan i had reached back india border. 😂 was super lucky. There was no extra fee back then. I had taken package tour from Jaigaon. Its such an over rated country according to me. Even the 3 star hotels were not upto the mark. The country sleeps and shuts so early. They are racists towards Indians. It’s clean but certainly not like many European nations in visited. I found it Hyped. I feel instead we should visit north east india.

Bhutan has done well to devise a tourist policy and guidelines for tourists. The existing rules prevent riff raff Indians from entering Bhutan. Also, not to be missed is the fact that these rules provide for an income for Taxi drivers and a boost to the local economy. I suspect Bhutan learnt well from the mistakes made by Nepal resulting in the Hashish Hippie influx into that country back in the 1960s and 1970s

But to be honest my personal experience with Mercedes buses are more comfortable. I had bus 🚌 ride in Mercedes with my wife, operator was NEETA, from Malad, Mumbai to Kolhapur, full sleeper, with personal tv, blankets pillows etc.. The ride was soooooo smooth, sooooo silent , my wife who is an Indonesian said she never had such a smooth bus ride ever, with 10 minutes she fell asleep when she woke up she was surprised 10 hours had passed and she was already in Kolhapur.
