Travion Smith Trial Day 5 Part 3 02/08/16

Raleigh police have arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a North Raleigh mother. Melissa Huggins-Jones was found covered in blood by her 8-year-old daughter on May 14 in their apartment in the 400 block of Allister Drive. On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, Raleigh police arrested 23-year-old Ronald Lee Anthony Jr., 20-year-old Travion Devonte Smith and 18-year-old Sarah Rene Redden in Wake Forest. All three are facing murder charges and are currently in the Wake County Jail.

The defense attorney fumbles and stumbles to much during questioning of witnesses

He reminds me of someone else too, also an actor, but I can't for the life of me think of something he's been in so I can look him up. It's been driving me half crazy since the start of the trial.

Well he reminds me of Sylvester McCoy who played Dr. Who for a time in the TV series in the UK. But I think he sounds like Joe Pantialiano

When you hear how Melissa was killed, this is a horrendous murder. Truly horrific.

The defence attorney does not actually ask any questions but mumbles and changes her sentence half way through

The female defence gives the poor judge a harder time than she does the state witnesses and I for one am sick of it.

Ok, on the slim chance the attorneys read these comments (because they can learn from them from a prospective juror's point of view) - Prosecution - Female - you should stop signing the last word of every sentence when questioning witnesses (you don't do this when addressing the court or having a normal conversation, so it is only something you do when you ask questions), it is extremely distracting and takes away from the importance of your question and even more importantly, the answer. When someone is sitting and listening to dialog for 8 hours, those little things can become extremely distracting. Defense - both male and female - on cross, I would think the idea is NOT to have the witness say yes to every question, I would think you'd want to raise argument rather than have everyone agree with you all the time because all you're doing there is repeating his/her direct testimony in a leading form rather than allowing for narrative as is done on direct. Also, neither of you speak with any confidence, a few public speaking courses may do you well, the stumbling over words, questions, backtracking, etc. makes you look like you don't really believe what you're saying but it's your job to say it. This defendant may very well have a good case on appeal for ineffectiveness of counsel. It isn't that you don't know what you're doing, it's that you don't present it well.
