Julius ceaser and a few greeks speak of it. odd enough.. i never saw a viking using a helmet in the show and not talking about horned helms either... when possible a viking would use always a helmet, not using a helmet or a shield was considered tremendously stupid if you had one at hand

Vikings actuall rarely used helmets. They usually made lightning attacks and not really avioded death as individuals so no big deal. Only some tremendously rich ones and chieftains started waering them in the later viking age.

fair enough.. we all know not every viking could use a sword or a chainmail and they were highly valuable items at the time... but examine every ancient tapestry of the time or ancient drawings, vikings are almost always using a helmet... so it is a bit strange that not even 1 viking in the show wears one, perhaps to show off the odd looking haircuts? (i'm not saying there weren't odd haircuts at the time either)
