Regarding the build quality: It's very sturdy and the spring doesn't feel cheap at all. I see this being a long lasting capo that I won't have to replace in 5 years. And if something were to go wrong, I'm confident that the guys at Gruv Gear would make it right. They've got a reputation for making high quality gear for musicians.

Hi Travis, Can you tell me measurement from one edge of the 7 rubbers to the other outside edge? I play a 7 string with wide string spacing. For example my string centre spacing at the 7th fret is 56mm from Bass A to High E. Do you think this capo will cover that? cheers Cary Lewincamp

Really good review and musical performance as usual. The tuner seems like a bit of an unnecessary gimmick to me however the real question is how good is the mechanical quality of the device (hinges etc.) and do you see it lasting a few years of daily use?

In a way I agree with you about the tuner. I can see how it would benefit some people, but for me, I'd much rather have it on the headstock at all times. Being a fingerstyle player that uses mostly open tunings, I don't use a capo that often but I can see how having the tuner clip on the capo might be useful for a singer songwriter. The capo itself is very strong and the springs are high quality. I don't see this one crapping out on me.

Holy shit, a spider capo with a clamp and unbreakable feet! It's perfect. The spider guys really should have made a mark II 10 years ago.

The only reason I'd see still needing some partial capos like your banjo capo (or I use my Keyser capo as a partial all the time), would be if you need to play the unpressed strings during your song (there are songs I use a partial over the lowest four strings, and keep the highest two open, and I fret them on the same fret that the capo is on several times throughout the song)....it looks like it would be in the way and not allow for that. Otherwise, it's sweet, and I want one.

It's not exactly designed for the partial capo usage like you're describing, but if you check my performance of Ken's Theme at the end of this video, I'm actually doing what you're describing. It's a tight fit, but I can put my index finger on the 2nd fret of both the E and A strings.

@@travisbowmanmusic nice. I wondered if there might be just enough room there. I play Rylynn by McKee often, and that is a requirement in that tune.

You're fantastic. Where do you perform? Do you teach?
@travisbowmanmusic2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do teach! Occasionally I get to travel and perform. Shoot me an email and I'll send you a FAQ about private lessons with me. Link to my email in the description of this video.

Button cell batteries are also expensive. If you buy just one, it's like 3 euros in finland. Total waste of money every time, not to mention that you might have to just carry them or go to a store. The only thing I really would want is usb c. So weird how many companies still make new products with micro usb.
@travisbowmanmusic2 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm not the biggest fan of having several devices that need to be charged all the time, as it can get overwhelming. Phone, video game controllers, watches, headphones, etc. But the tuner I can definitely get behind. Those batteries go quick and nothing is worse than when you're at a gig and your battery is almost dead. Makes it impossible to see if you're in tune or not. I think micro USB is on it's way out but not quite 100% yet. Perhaps micro USB was a better fit for this particular tuner being quite small. I'm not an engineer, so I can't say much about that.
