Today we attempt to build a bass from scratch only using parts from TEMU. And the big kicker is that we are going to try and do it all in one day. This bass build was probably one of the most fun and stressful ones we've done, because of the final result.

The body is made of Candlenut (Aleurites Moluccanus). I know that because it looks exactly the same as the first body I bought from chinese seller. It was extremely soft and very hard to work (because it was too easy to damage). With time, patience and work I managed to make a good guitar out of it. The nice thing about these is that once finished, it looks great and naturally age very fast. Funny thing is that the chinese neck I bought at the same time was a extremely hard maple. Stronger than a gibson haha. My LP fell a lot of time on the head without a single damage.

He didn't have to do the cutout for the J pickup on the CNC right? Or has he never used a handheld router with a follower bit? Mark out centerline, put on template, route away, literally 5min job. I have a whole stack of templates for neck pockets, pickups etc. You make one if you need one, and hang on to it.
@neoguitarconcepts20
@neoguitarconcepts20 Ай бұрын
Obviously I know I could do that…but I don’t own a handheld router. AND adding a pickup was a last minute idea we had so we didn’t have a template to put down on the centerline my guy. So without a template I just measured the pickup, designed it in the software with a bit of an offset, got the bass put on the CNC and made sure it was straight and boom…pickup hole was cut out. Sure it took longer than 5 minutes but we didn’t have the alternative. I used the CNC for the pickguard too cause we didn’t know if a random pickguard from TEMU would fit and line up with the neck pocket, etc. So we thought it would be easier to just design and cut our own pickguard out.
@jarnoverhoeven3118
@jarnoverhoeven3118 Ай бұрын
@@neoguitarconcepts20 I'd say get a handheld router, doing repairs and mods for people is a great (and quick!) way to bolster your revenue if you are looking to grow your business. IMHO, there probably are a lot more people looking to change the sound of their guitar by changing pickups, than there are people ready to buy a fully custom instrument.
@neoguitarconcepts20
@neoguitarconcepts20 Ай бұрын
@@jarnoverhoeven3118 you are probably right about that. I’m sure there’s more people wanting customization and work done on their instruments rather than buy new instruments. All I’ve ever done is build instruments from scratch. I’ve never done this kind of stuff to existing instruments. The few videos I’ve done with Travis are the only times I’ve ever messed with bodies and necks already made. But I’ll look into getting a handheld router. No doubt it would be useful in the shop.

I tried to watch this. The TEMU portion was not the issue! The builder whining about not being able to just use the computer and CNC right off then all the way through to me quitting watching, the unintelligent comments that show his lack of knowledge of "Hardwood" and "Softwood" as Balsa is a Hardwood not to mention that a simple sand and smell test will tell you if it is pine. The overwhelming and pushed feeling of why am I making this video got too great at the half way mark. I don't know the channel but this is the presented video to get to know two apparent inept builders (if the one guy is a builder) on a hate filled "just why even bother" build made me never want to even try another vid or try to get to know these guys. I wish the channel good luck and hope this was a really bad example of their work suggested by KZbin.
@neoguitarconcepts20
@neoguitarconcepts20 Ай бұрын
😂😂 I never said I was a master builder or anything. I just started messing around building some guitars a couple years ago for fun. So I definitely don’t have all the knowledge in the world about wood like you do good sir lol. All I know is this wood was much softer than what I usually mess with. But also, get this…it doesn’t matter. It’s a cheap inexpensive bass made with TEMU parts lol. The channel is just not for you, I’m glad you got that figured out early on so you won’t waste anymore of your time. 👍🏼
@MrAaroncissell

@@neoguitarconcepts20 The entire issue was the attitude. Fine that a guitar builder does not know wood. You keep to the traditional woods you can't go wrong. However no matter what you are using or where the parts come from the "Attitude" displayed was the issue. I noticed that you did not address it in your response. Wood types is easy to learn. Hell their are only two Hard, Broad Leaf and Soft, Needle leaf. Species is much harder and I did not bring that up at all. but again it was the attitude that the ignorant statement was said in being the main issue. Nice job trying to shift the issue to something that was stupid but not the main problem your attitude which you had no response to.
@neoguitarconcepts20
@neoguitarconcepts20 Ай бұрын
@@MrAaroncissell I didn’t try to shift the issue. You literally insulted my knowledge for me not knowing my woods lol so I was addressing that. And then in this response you said it’s “fine if a guitar builder doesn’t know woods.” So which is it? Insult me for my lack of knowledge or is it ok that I have a lack of knowledge? I’m going to need you to be more consistent with your jabs and critiques. I will admit looking back at the video that my attitude in the video is more along the lines of “I don’t think we can do this.” It was a lot to get done in one day and as I previously said, I’m not a professional. I just do this for fun so I was not optimistic that we could get the build done in one day. I’ll keep the attitude thing in mind for future videos. 👍🏼

Actually I did. I build guitars for fun. I actually own no hand routers and we didn’t have a template for the pickguard material or the J pickup….you just expect me to whittle that out with a chisel? lol. But in all seriousness, all I use is the CNC for my normal builds so that’s all I had that could cut the shapes we wanted. So sue me I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️ I think it turned out pretty nice even with the use of a CNC.
