Since the movie came out, I have literally been binge-watching all the reactions. As a 73 yo gay man, this is the first time I've really been invested - heart and soul as it turns out - in their story. Each time I rewatch, I laugh at the same jokes, even though now I can quote them. And my eyes tear up in between the jokes. I love how the two of them use little tricks of their expression to convey so much - a twitch of a smile at the corner of a mouth, a downward glance, a tightening of a jaw muscle. Some of my favorite parts of the expression on Alex's face as he sees Henry talking to a sick kid. The few seconds they gave us was more than enough to establish a key point in Alex's change in feelings. "Vicky!" to say that in England in front of royalty is a hoot. The whole New Year's Eve scene, where Alex is flirting with Henry the entire time (even though he doesn't seem to be self-aware), paying attention, sticking with him. And Henry realizes it until it all comes crashing down in Henry's mind when he sees Alex kissing others, not kissing him, and even so, Henry could not openly kiss back. The tears in Henry's eyes as he withdraws to outside. And of course, the KISS.

Whatever faults or flaws or criticisms could be levelled at this film, it really doesn't matter as you just lose yourself in such a heart-warming story which thankfully is so far removed from the sleaze, vulgarity, cheating, sex parties, drugs, threesomes, open relationships and all the rest of it which sadly seems to be what often defines gay life!! What a breath of fresh air for those who want to identify with this romantic and possible image of gay life. I hope there is a sequel soon as the demand is definitely there. And even a TV series to explore the story in more detail would be wonderful but I'd want it to be with the same actors in all the roles.

So true! I mean, I'm not against open relationships or threesomes at all but that's just not for everyone. So it's really nice to see a different type of relationship being portrayed. Too bad the industry treats many of its employees like shit, so that the strikes are necessary on one hand, but Taylor, Nicholas and all the others are being robbed of their so well deserved attention. Uma, too, I haven't seen her for quite a while, so RWRB could have been her 'yes, guys, I'm still there and a force to reckon with' moment. I hope that doesn't damage the friendship between the boys. U know, first they spend this so very intensive weeks together, become so close, so soon, are able to do at least some interviews and photo shoots (GQ, wasn't it?), but then, nothing. Sure, after a project is done, the actors all go their merry ways, doing new stuff etc. But the usual press stuff once a movie is published and therefore opportunities to rekindle and meet again couldn't happen. Plus, like Alex and Henry, they live far apart from each other.
@marissaconklin5098
@marissaconklin5098 Жыл бұрын
@@svenheimes2494 yeah that’s so sad :( I support the strike. I just hope that everything gets resolved in a good way, but selfishly I’d like it to happen soon. It does suck that such incredible actors and a sweet wholesome movie like this isn’t getting the promotion it and they deserve. Very good point.

It’s so nice to see a silly Rom-com with all the tropes and in main stream but with queer characters. As someone who’s watched every romcom of the early 00s this stands up to the best of them and it’s just the story between two characters. The fact they’re queer plays a big part yes, but them falling for each other and the silliness could be in any movie of the genre and I think that’s massively important and what the queer community has needed.

We have seen the fairy tale of a love with a happy ending 1000 times and more in straight movies. But the fact that this is now shown as one of the few exceptions with a gay couple is more or less a revolution. Maybe it is too much to ask for an Oscar for whoever or whatever in this movie. But even without one, it will be remembered for a long time. The chemistry of the actors is pure gold.

I don't know where did they find these two lead actors, but they did a fantastic job! The chemistry, intimacy is perfect! On that scene , they really were making love! It wasn't just a s*e*x. It was the first time that I saw this gay s*e*x scene so beautiful. Most of them are very quick and rushy. And from behind! It really showed that it was the first time for Alex ,and the first time for Henry with the one he is in love with. I have red the book last year. I mean... great adaptation from the book. And, I think that the museum was a sign that he could feel that he could easily and without fear walk among people and be himself. Dance with someone you like without anyone watching or judging you. And also, don't forget that Henry always wanted to be a writer. So I was not surprised by the emails he sent to Alex! He really knows what to write and how to write!

Where Henry takes Alex is, in reality as in the movie, the Victoria and Albert Museum. The crew was not allowed to add any lights or other equipment inside the Museum, so they had to work with what was there. In your summing up, the idea were trying to convey was most famously said in the 1950s in The Wolfenden Report to the British House of Commons: Between consenting adults in private.

Some of my most favorite movies have scenes where my tears well up - like It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th St., Hidden Figures. These I keep rewatching over the years. Seriously, it's not healthy anymore^^ And yes, the movie has its flaws - production value, some of the writing, the development of the side characters, the pacing to a certain extent. The acting though I find impeccable. I'm about to watch it for the 3rd time right about now, have seen NUMEROUS reactions...there's sth relaxing, heart-touching and soul-warming about RWRB. I’m a 60 years old heterosexual female and every time I watch it I am in tears again and In joy and of course it’s so romantic… And it has so many important issues that this story addresses for society all over the world and for humanity that many people are struggling with, that I wish I had a podcast to stop at each moment and talk about all these issues that this movie brings up and sheds light on… I have my own thoughts and ideas about the issues presented, even more than what’s obvious in the movie, from my own life experience, that I wish I did have a podcast right now to shed some light on things and ask questions… But definitely they’re such good actors it’s well casted it dealt with important subjects that are relevant for the times… It was very healing for me to see people fight for their individuality and freedom to be… I have to say I watched it few times I loved it of course because I’m a hopeless romantic but also because I care about the world and the issues that humanity is going through… and this movie sheds light on these issues that matter to me and I’m sure many other people… So I think it deserves some awards I don’t know if it will get any but I think it definitely deserves some…Especially the two lovers…But if I was voting, I would vote for Taylor Zakhar Perez❤👏👏✌️👌

I think Pride & Prejudice is a good comparison of how this movie could have gone, considering there are several movies of the story. I have to admit I never paid any attention to Jane Austen, until I saw three "rugby-type" men react to the most recent movie. They were rolling with laughter, with the movie, not against. I watched that, the 1940 black-n-white one, and the 6-part series. For any Austen fan, the longest one may still not have been long enough, but it probably mostly got Austen fans to watch it. The most recent one changed dialogue (generally a no-no with her words) to make it more punchy and relevant to today's younger audience. And like me, many will follow up with the series. In other words, the short one was a sort of "gateway drug" to the longer one. So I think many fans of this book would always clamor for more and yet fewer people proportionately would watch it. I didn't read the book until after I saw the movie. All the extra details in the book seem like a way to expand on the movie, as I read every line with the actors firmly in mind, instead of seeing the movie as a reduction of the book. Okay, back to watching it again.

The original cut of the movie was 3 hours, and there is clamoring for Amazon to release the uncut version. There's also talk of a possible sequel - Casey McQuiston did write a bonus chapter in the hardback version featuring Henry's POV over the next 6 years or so. Plus she is now talking about writing a sequel novel. So, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Alex and Henry yet! I read the book and yes, this is an "adaptation" which omits/combines characters and subplots. But overall, it stays very true to the soul of the original novel. And I love it, too!

I'm retired from the motion picture post-production industry and with the introduction of non-linear editing and shooting with digital cameras the first cut of a lot of movies include almost everything, with the knowledge that a lot of what was shot will not make the final cut. The 3 hour cut will be of the raw footage. All of the steps involved in "finishing" the movie starts only after the picture is locked, so to bring the 3 hour cut up to release standards would be very expensive. Would I like to see it? Sure. Do I expect to see it? No.

@@andremaloney4128 Maybe you can explain what exactly is "an assembly" of a film, which is what the director of the movie Matthew Lopez says was 2 hours 45 minutes? He said it was shot and strung together. What I don't understand is what is not considered acceptable with an "assembly" that directors don't want it to see the light of day.
@andremaloney4128
@andremaloney4128 Жыл бұрын
@@kekwayblaze3176 Sure thing, just note that some of the details in what follows may have changed with the advent of all digital film making. You've probably seen out-takes that include the slate (clapper) at the beginning of the shot and that also includes the director calling out "cut" at the end. If the director likes the shot, they will also say "print it" or "print that one". When that happens the camera operator will make a note in the film log (traditionally by circling the take number). The next day, usually at lunch, the director, producers and department heads will watch the circled takes (called dailies or rushes) to make sure there are no technical issues. once the dailies are approved, they go to editorial and, once enough footage of a scene has been approved the editing can begin. So the assembly is just the raw footage strung together so that all the dialog is put together in script order. You might consider this a "technical" edit as opposed to a "creative" edit. Once the creative editing starts, the film will go through several edits in order to get to the release version. During the creative editing of say Alex's speech, they may use sentences from several takes in the final edit, where they would have just used one take for the assembly. Hope that helps.

They do not identify as straight they infact identify as anything at all.. it’s their choice to keep their private live and their sexual identities a secret. They probably have their own reasons. Tht I think is wht Alex is talking abt in his speech.. YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK… it’s a totally different thing for the movie they’re both brilliant on their own but u should definitely should read it… I agree with you they should hv done a series. And there seem to be a shout out for a 2nd movie so… who knows… let’s hope for the best… love your reaction.. I felt how honest you felt abt the movie and it was so refreshing to see…

While we are all enjoying this movie, and perhaps the book as well,❤🧡💛💚💙💜, please remember that men loving other men will result in them being labeled deviant or worse. Also in some countries it will result in imprisonment or execution. Stephen Fry, bless him, has been active fighting this discrimination.

Supposedly Amazon limited this to just two hours. Doubt making this a series was probably out of the question.

You're absolutely right about things being left out. As sweet and lovely as the movie is, it's still a bare-bones outline of the book, which I've read at least 7 times and HIGHLY recommend. It does everything the movie does, just 10× better 🥰🏳️‍🌈💕

Apparently they filmed so much that could've been a 3 hour movie, including that deleted Cornetto scene. I would watch the whole thing and love to see how much of the movie they were able to include. The book is one of my comfort media and I miss June and Amy as characters

A miniseries would've been ideal, but I am glad they gave the Prince Henry fact sheet scene to Amy so she could have more screen time 💖

Agreed, the book is epic, but not everyone reads these days. The movie is the gateway drug. I read the book second, (having not heard of it before on this side of ‘ the pond’, and was blown away by the sumptuous details of the emails. It’s been a two pronged attack on my senses. Love.😅
