I bought an x-maxx last week and it came with the upgraded hubs already installed. I think if it has an X at the end of the model number then it's been upgraded, not 100% sure but seen a few comments about it.

Built a full Alu7075 Vitavon xmaxx. Front and rear complete Alu inc bulkheads front and rear upper and lower. All the arms and everything else Vitavon make. Looks awesome.

Not perfect, nothing is really, but I think a great design all round is the Xmaxx. Yeah what you are saying about weight, yep, it's physics. You gotta get some deployable wings that pop out the sides when you jump....add a 20 kg servo, make them triangular shaped, get some maximum distance! Kind of like those soaring suits where they have gussets under the arms to get lift.....

I would like to recommend a Traxxas stampede it is one of the best 1/12 scale rc cars for bashing. They're a little slow but you can upgrade the motor to brushless and the battery to a lipo. I would like to see what you think about it.
