After running many packs it turns out this gear ratio creates too much heat and causes motor failure. I no longer recommend this gear change unless you change the motor.

AL2 RC Can you just put a brushless motor to have a much long time?
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Thoody Sure, but you will need to change the ESC as well.

No worries good to hear feedback on our mod be it good or bad. Of note is our original car is still running strong. Feedback taken on board though. Just moved house hence lack of recent videos. Normal service is resumed. Great video intro BTW!

Thanks for the very in-depth and helpful tutorial! By the way, if you want to save some time when changing the spur, leave the slipper assembly together and on, but just remove the 3 screws and you can pry the spur gear off and slide the new one on and put the 3 screws back in! I used to do what you did, but I recently found out about this method and it saves a lot of time! Just a helpful tip!

Also, if you wanna go fast and pop wheelies, just tighten your slipper all the way then loosen it 1/4 a turn. Just make sure after the run to loosen it another 1/4 turn!

IMO a higher rpm motor using the same pinion will be better, more expensive, but better :) Getting rid of the stock motor is SOP for any brushed car ;)

Get some 5X8 MM fiber washers to put between the axle, and hex, they will take a lot of slop out of the wheels. I put 2 on each corner of my truck, and it helped a lot. And replace the plastic hexes with aluminum ones to keep from stripping them out. You only have to take out the top camber link screws on the back to get the axles out. And make sure to time the axle halves when you put them back together. One thing I would do is take those phillips screws, and throw them as far as I can, and replace them with hex head screws. And replace those fiber slipper clutch pads with steel ones. Better grip, and longer life. Mine were in pieces after about 3 battery packs run through it. You don't want to overtighten the spring on the clutch.
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You have a link or part no. for the 5x8 washers?

The Big Foot is basically a Stampede, right? So this mods works with them to. Love what you do with the Grave Digger, I will order mine next week
@delhardyrc7 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Just a wee tip, you dont need to remove the slipper assembly. Just undo the three cap head screws holding the spur gear onto the slipper assembly. Pop it off, and replace with the new one.

No. It would be best to buy 4x4 version of this truck. Traxxas Stampede 4x4. You can buy a Bigfoot body and use it with the 4x4 version.

Are you going to put the Axial wheels and BKT tires from the Grave Digger on this Traxxas Bigfoot?

TheImtoomuch I took a quick look at that but something seemed off. The wheels had some play but I didn't go any further to see what was wrong.

@slkric17248 жыл бұрын
What kind of difference did you see with the change from bushings to bearings?
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Slk Ric Other then a smoother spin on the wheels they just handle the higher speed better.
@slkric17248 жыл бұрын
AL2 RC Oh ok. I just bought the new Traxxas bigfoot #1 that just came out. So I'm going to change the bushings to the bearings like you did. And I'm going to run 2S lipo in it.
@slkric17248 жыл бұрын
I changed the bushings to bearings and I can tell a BIG difference! Thanks for the info on your video.
@InTheDogHouse3DPrinting8 жыл бұрын
Are you running the stock NiMh battery? If so get a 2S LiPo, and it will help a lot with the power.
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Your right. That NiMh is not so good. Just picked up a set of Traxxas plugs. Going to convert a 2S with Deans I have over.

Hey quick question why did my motor start smoking after I tested it out? I did it step by step...
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Viridiana Garcia Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Couple things. What battery were you running? Make sure pinion to spur gear mesh is correct. Slipper clutch too tight maybe. We're u running in dirt or hard surface like pavement?
@juanRodriguez-lq7vm7 жыл бұрын
Awesome
@viridianacarbajales8 жыл бұрын
Hey AL2, so I'm using the stock battery which is 8.4v nimh 3000mah.. yes I was running it on the pavement as well as dirt (gravel).. I loosed the slipper clutch but I'm afraid to test it out again... Do you think my motor is done??
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Viridiana Garcia It could be. I would test it without loading. Just check it on your test bench and see how it runs. Make sure your tires are off when testing inside. If it seems fine then you can try running it again outside but I would take it easy until it seems fine. How many total run do you have on this truck?
@viridianacarbajales8 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's definitely not running right almost sounds like it's grinding or spinning can't really tell, it doesn't have it full power.. oh and the motor smells like it's burning but no smoke.
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Viridiana Garcia Humm... sounds like your motor is fried. I have quite a few runs without any issues.
@alejandropadilla28116 жыл бұрын
If I only change the bearings if I improve the speed, I do not want to overheat the Motor
@316RC6 жыл бұрын
22 changing out to bearings over bushings will not improve the speed. You need to change the motor and gearing. Now some people report not burning out their motor with the gear change. I think it depends on how hard you run it. My motor burned up after about 20 packs.

Tried this setup on my week old bigfoot, for me it was a big mistake, the motor was smoking within 3 minutes and was too hot to touch. I can't recommend this unless you want a blown motor.Thanks anyways only cost a few bucks to try. I ran it with a 7.4 LIPO 5000 50C.
@316RC8 жыл бұрын
Tracy Siciliano I had about 7 runs then smoked my motor as well. This gear ratio creates too much heat.
